Estimator/Draftsperson in Construction

PCD Civil Retaining Walls are an expanding Civil Supply & Installation for concrete sleeper retaining wall company and we are looking for an experienced Estimator/Draftsperson to join the team. You’ll be involved in a diverse and challenging scope of works, based in Narangba Industrial Hub, North of Brisbane.

Team size: 80 employees + 50 subcontractors

ROLE DUTIES

·         Determining construction methods, materials, quality standards, drafting, interpreting specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures.

·         Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, civil plans, specifications, and related documents

·         Identify labour, material, time requirements by studying proposals, civil plans, specifications, and related documents

·         Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analysing information

·         Present prepared estimate by assembling, displaying numerical and descriptive information

·         Ensure all plans comply with building requirements

·         Studying architectural engineering drawings, specifications to estimate total costs, preparing detailed cost plans and estimates, as tools to assist in budgetary control

·         Monitoring changes to designs, assessing effects on cost, measuring, valuing, and negotiating variations to designs

·         Analysing retaining walls for both static and dynamic loads in a quoting theory basis

·         Assessing present and future travel flow patterns considering population increase that needs change

EXPERIENCE/SKILLSET

• Minimum 5 years' experience within Estimating or Draftsperson position in Construction

• Drafting qualifications highly preferred but not required 

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal staff, subcontractors and the management team

• Experienced with the use of Microsoft Office, Excel, proficient in AutoCAD and Revit

• A self-motivated individual with a proactive mindset, strong work ethic, capable of taking initiative and contributing hands-on when required in a team environment to hit deadlines

• Excellent attention to detail and high standard of quality

• Understanding of Construction terminology and processes in terms with engineering principles

• Ability to prioritise tasks independently and manage time effectively

• Capable of reading civil plans and structural designs

• Ability to work autonomously and/or as part of a team

• Adaptable to changing circumstances

• Desire to grow and develop professionally

• Ability to compare differences between Civil plans and a clear understanding of quoting variational cost

• Problem solving independently with theoretical data

• Ability to review tasks and find errors before onboarding projects to staff

• Geotech and structural basics (soil conditions and effects of surcharge loading)

• Familiar with creating Autodesk families associated to real life materials and weightage

• Personalised BOQ take offs from civil plans in a self-managed role to hit KPI’s

• Create budget for pre-construction and variations post construction

PACKAGE

• $80,000 – $100,000 + Super (Negotiable depending on experience)
