Clinical trials struggle to find patients. Millions of patients don’t know clinical trials are an option. HealthMatch sits in the middle as the recruitment marketplace connecting them. Giving better access to innovative therapies for patients, and clearer, more predictable recruitment for our customers.

Senior / Lead Full-Stack Engineer

(Think very senior IC with plenty of technical leadership, but no direct reports.)

We’re looking for a strong senior engineer who works independently, owns complex features end-to-end, and thinks like a tech lead without the formal title.

Where & How You’ll Work

• Based in Sydney, with a hybrid WFH/office (near Townhall Station)
• A small, senior-leaning team with high trust and low ceremony
• Roughly half the team is US-based, so you’ll need some good async habits and overlapping hours where it matters (all company meetings)
• Opportunities to travel to the US around once a year for onsite collaboration and planning
• Plenty of ownership - your decisions will meaningfully influence our architecture and ways of working

What You’ll Do

• Own features from concept → requirements → implementation → launch
• Take broad problems and turn them into clear, scoped, buildable work
• Build high-quality full-stack features across our platform
• Deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production systems
• Balance engineering quality with business needs and speed
• Work closely with product and operations to shape pragmatic solutions

How You Work

• You work with Claude/GPT and use AI to accelerate development
• But you check and challenge every decision the model makes
• You understand that AI is fast, not always right - and you know when to trust it, when to rewrite it, and when to tell it to try again
• You treat AI as leverage, not a substitute for engineering judgment

You’ll Be a Great Fit If You:

• Have senior-level experience shipping production features end-to-end
• Can operate autonomously and make pragmatic trade-offs
• Understand infra, deployments, observability, and operational readiness
• Think in terms of edge cases, failure modes, and long-term maintainability
• Communicate clearly and prefer simple, understandable solutions
• Enjoy working across disciplines and care about real patient and business impact

Our Stack

Our codebase is mixed and fairly large, but mostly we use:
Kotlin, GraphQL, REST, React, DBT, and we deploy to AWS.
