Impact of the Organisation
Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) is a key voice for the local business community, representing and supporting businesses across Newman and the wider East Pilbara region.

Located approximately 1,300 kilometres north of Perth, Newman sits at the heart of Western Australia’s resources sector and is home to a diverse community of local businesses, major employers and regional stakeholders.
NCCI works to strengthen local business representation, build member capability, create connections between businesses and major industry, and advocate on the economic development priorities that will shape the future of Newman and the region.

With funding from the Local Buying Foundation and support from BHP, NCCI is delivering the Newman Economic Participation and Growth Program, a structured two-year initiative focused on strengthening local business representation, building member capability, coordinating regional partnerships and supporting the Chamber’s long-term sustainability.

The Impact of the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a highly visible regional leadership role and make a tangible contribution to the economic development and long-term prosperity of Newman.

Reporting to the NCCI Committee, the Executive Officer will lead the delivery of the Newman Economic Participation and Growth Program while strengthening the Chamber’s membership, partnerships, influence and long-term financial sustainability.

You will build strong relationships across local, state and federal government, the resources sector, regional development bodies, local businesses, community organisations and First Nations stakeholders. You will become a trusted representative for NCCI and ensure the priorities and challenges facing Newman businesses are understood by key decision-makers.

Advocacy will be an important part of the role, with priorities including industrial and commercial land release, key worker accommodation, enabling infrastructure and broader issues affecting regional economic development and liveability. You will prepare advocacy briefs and submissions, monitor relevant policy developments and support the Committee in engaging with government and industry.

Alongside advocacy, you will work directly with the local business community to grow NCCI’s membership, deliver capability initiatives and create stronger connections between local businesses, major project operators, contractors and regional employers. You will also represent NCCI at relevant regional events, forums, summits and procurement initiatives.

A critical priority will be building NCCI’s long-term sustainability. You will identify and pursue grants, sponsorships, partnerships and other funding opportunities, while developing a broader income diversification strategy to strengthen the Chamber beyond its current funding period.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the delivery of NCCI’s Advocacy Plan across key economic development and investment priorities.
• Prepare advocacy briefs, submissions and representations for government, agencies and key decision-makers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across local, state and federal government, the resources sector, industry, regional bodies and the local business community.
• Work closely with the Shire of East Pilbara, Pilbara Development Commission, Regional Development Australia and other key regional stakeholders.
• Build relationships with community and First Nations stakeholders, including Traditional Owner organisations, to support First Nations business participation and partnership development.
• Deliver business capability programs, workshops, networking opportunities and initiatives aligned with member needs.
• Facilitate buy-local opportunities and connections between local businesses, major project operators, contractors and regional employers.
• Implement membership growth initiatives, including targeted business outreach, member engagement and strengthening NCCI’s value proposition.
• Represent NCCI at regional events, forums, summits, procurement engagements and stakeholder meetings.
• Identify and pursue grant funding, sponsorship, partnerships and other opportunities to diversify NCCI’s revenue.
• Develop and implement a Sustainability and Transition Plan to strengthen the Chamber’s long-term financial and organisational sustainability.
• Manage budgets, financial performance, funding requirements and acquittals within agreed governance and financial controls.
• Provide regular reporting to the NCCI Committee and funders against agreed milestones, KPIs, financial performance and risk.
• Strengthen operational systems, governance processes and organisational capability to support NCCI’s continued growth.

  
About You
You’re a confident and proactive relationship builder who can bring together business, government, industry and community to create meaningful regional outcomes. You’ll be comfortable working autonomously, building trusted relationships and turning strategic priorities into practical action.

You will bring:

• Experience in economic development, business development, regional advocacy or a closely related field.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills across government, industry, business and community.
• Demonstrated experience delivering programs or projects with clear outcomes, milestones and reporting requirements.
• Experience in grant writing, funding acquisition, sponsorship or partnership development, with the confidence to pursue new funding opportunities.
• Strong advocacy, influencing and written communication skills, including preparing submissions, briefs and stakeholder communications.
• Experience working within governance frameworks, including reporting to a Board, Committee or similar governing body.
• Financial and commercial capability, including experience with budgets, financial reporting and funding requirements.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities while balancing hands-on delivery, stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
• Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to work independently.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to turn ideas and opportunities into action.
• Experience working in regional or remote communities would be highly regarded.
