About the role
The Role
Defence’s Security Threat and Assurance Branch is seeking talented and motivated individuals to join a high-performing team, protecting Defence’s people, information, assets, and capabilities. You will deliver priority activities for Defence, undertaking work that is complex, challenging and sensitive.
Under limited direction, you will perform various roles across intelligence, case management, policy, and support to other government agencies. You will also be required to manage and develop junior staff members. Tasks may include developing intelligence products, preparing briefs, and developing governance frameworks that underpin Defence’s counterintelligence posture. You will lead engagement with stakeholders across Defence, the National Intelligence Community and international partners.
This role is Canberra based and some interstate travel may be required. A Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV 1) security clearance is required to commence this role; however, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Positive Vetting (PV) security clearance.
About our Team
The Directorate of Security and Counterintelligence forms part of Security Threat and Assurance Branch and undertakes a range of specialist enterprise-wide security functions to protect Defence people, assets, information and capabilities from security threats. The Directorate is responsible for detecting and mitigating insider threats and counterintelligence issues and providing timely security intelligence and threat advice to the Defence enterprise. The Directorate comprises of both Australian Defence Force and APS staff and undertakes close liaison with other government agencies on investigations, services requests for information from across the National Intelligence Community, and supports the Australian Government Contact Reporting Scheme.

Security Clearance
Prior to commencement, successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process. As a Positive Vetting clearance is required, applicants must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.
