• Ongoing (35 hrs. per week)
• Location: Lismore
• Inspector, base salary ($115,856 - $119,319) pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

Oversees medium-sized centres or hubs within the NSW Sheriff's Office, handling security, operations, and potentially managing satellite courts. Leads a team, ensuring staff are trained and perform efficiently to meet objectives in line with legislative requirements.

What you'll do

• Manage, lead, and develop staff in a Sheriff's Office Centre or Hub by:
  • • Ensuring practices follow the Business Plan, Public Sector guidelines, and Departmental instructions.
    • Directing staff to efficiently handle Supreme, District, Local Court, and Tribunal matters.
    • Rotating Officers for training in consultation with the Regional Commander.
• Provide advice to the Registrar/Regional Commander, prepare reports, and arrange support for other locations during resource shortages or high-risk situations.
• Review, develop, and implement policies to improve operations, service delivery, and staff training.
• Ensure the execution of service processes from various courts, including those from Commonwealth and other States, under the Regional Commander's supervision.
• Assist Regional Commanders with security plans and risk assessments, ensuring safety for judiciary, jurors, legal professionals, witnesses, and the public.
• Monitor security equipment, conduct building entry screenings, and implement contingency plans as needed.
• Coordinate jurors for court proceedings, ensuring smooth operations, handling witnesses and exhibits, and maintaining courtroom decorum.
• Maintain office records and databases, including security systems, vehicle usage, work logs, and accounting systems.
• Support Regional Commanders in day-to-day operations as a Duty Officer by:
  • • Providing urgent operational decisions or advice.
    • Coordinating with other agencies during incidents.
    • Conducting reviews after incidents and providing supervisory support.
    • Managing rosters.
    • Resolving workplace issues with the Regional Commander or HR partners.

What we're looking for

• Efficiently manage resources in a high-pressure and diverse work environment.
• Provide guidance on complex law enforcement activities and address client complaints by developing and implementing effective solutions.
• Strong understanding of legal principles and processes and the NSW court system.
• Strong understanding and compliance with departmental policies and practices, including harassment prevention, EEO, EAPS, ethical conduct, workplace health and safety, disability awareness, and the Aboriginal Cultural Capability Framework.

Essential requirements

• Successful completion of the Sheriff's Officer Recruit Training Program.
• Certificate III in Government to be completed within 12 months of commencement.
• Successful completion of tactical re-certification, and other prescribed training programs mandated in line with Clause 9 of the Crown Employees (Sheriff's Officer) Award 2024 as required.
• Willingness to obtain and complete a Diploma of Leadership and Management or equivalent upon commencement.
• Current NSW Driver's Licence, with a provisional P2 licence as a minimum upon entry to service.
• Current First Aid certificate.
• Meet the required health, physical and psychological requirements in accordance with agency standards.

Note: The position is a sworn Sheriff's Officer under the Sheriff Act 2005, responsible for performing duties as needed, including executing court orders and ensuring court security. Classified as a commissioned officer under Section 14 of the Sheriff Act 2005, the role also involves maintaining essential services such as court security, jury administration, and civil enforcement during periods of industrial action.
