About the role
Meaningful work • Flexible hours • Be part of the community
At CDC Northern Territory, part-time and school-based roles are not treated as short-term solutions. Many of our carers stay with us for years — building trusted relationships with students, families and depot teams, and taking pride in work that genuinely supports the community.
We provide essential school transport services across the Northern Territory, including Alice Springs, helping children with additional needs access education safely and consistently. While we’re part of a global transport group, our focus in the Territory is local — supporting families, investing in people, and doing work that matters.
These roles operate during school terms, but they are ongoing and reliable, offering stability for people seeking long-term, part-time work that fits around other commitments.
Many of our Special Needs Transit Carers value the predictability and longevity of the role and choose to stay with us over the long term.
This role offers structured, predictable hours with flexibility built in.
You’ll work:
Two short shifts per school day
Approximately 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon
School days only (average 20 hours per week)
This structure suits people who want meaningful work while still having time during the day — including parents, carers, semi-retirees, or those balancing other responsibilities.
As a Special Needs Transit Carer, you play a vital role in supporting children during their daily journey to and from school.
Working closely with the Bus Driver, you will:
Support the care, comfort and safety of students during travel
Assist with safe pick-up and drop-off at designated locations
Observe and respond to individual needs, behaviour and wellbeing
Maintain simple daily records relating to each journey
This is a role built on trust, consistency and care, where your presence helps children feel safe and families feel reassured.
You don’t need to arrive with everything already in place. We’re committed to supporting carers to settle into the role and stay with us long term.
You’ll need:
A current Working with Children (Ochre) Card
A current First Aid Certificate, including CPR
A caring, calm and reliable approach when working with children
Experience in disability, education or care settings is welcome but not essential — the right attitude and commitment matter most.
All successful applicants will complete a pre-employment medical assessment and Drug & Alcohol screening.
Our Alice Springs depot is known for its supportive, respectful and community-focused culture. Staff work closely together and take pride in supporting local families and students.
You’ll be part of a team where your contribution is noticed, valued, and relied upon — not treated as temporary or disposable.
If you’re looking for stable, flexible work with purpose, where you can build meaningful relationships and stay with an organisation that values continuity and care, CDC Northern Territory could be the right fit for you.
