About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Program Delivery, the Trainer Mentor forms part of the delivery team for a national pilot supporting construction sector workers to transition into VET practitioner roles.

You will deliver tailored face-to-face and virtual mentoring across Australia, helping participants explore career pathways, navigate entry and qualification requirements, understand workplace expectations and build confidence and capability to move into trainer roles. You will also help develop and refine the mentoring program as the pilot evolves.

What you’ll do

• Provide tailored mentoring and transition support, building participants’ confidence and helping them navigate barriers.
• Help participants understand training roles, career pathways, qualification requirements and workplace expectations, and identify appropriate next steps.
• Deliver responsive face-to-face and virtual support adapted to participants’ circumstances, needs and stage of transition.
• Contribute to developing, implementing and refining the mentoring program, resources and delivery approach.
• Build productive relationships with training providers, industry, trainers, employers and government to support participant pathways and outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records, report on mentoring activity and outcomes, and contribute insights to program evaluation and continuous improvement.

About you

You are an experienced and qualified VET trainer interested in using your expertise in a broader way. You understand the realities of the training system and can translate that experience into practical support for people entering the profession.

• Strong mentoring and coaching capability, with a participant-centred approach that builds confidence and momentum.
• Ability to establish trust and adapt your approach to participants from diverse backgrounds and at different stages of career transition.
• Sound understanding of the Australian VET system, trainer roles, career pathways and practitioner expectations.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a dispersed team and contribute to shared outcomes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive relationships across training providers, industry, employers and government.
• A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond effectively to changing needs, priorities and circumstances in a dynamic program environment.
• Sound organisation, record-keeping and reporting skills, including confidence using program reporting tools and digital systems.

Experience you’ll bring

• Current or recent experience as a qualified VET trainer within an RTO or related training organisation.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting trainers as they enter and establish themselves in the VET workforce.
• Experience transitioning from industry into training as a subsequent career or supporting others through this transition.
• Experience delivering participant-focused programs or services and reporting on activity and outcomes.
• A current training and assessment qualification that meets VET trainer and assessor requirements.

Highly regarded

• Experience in the construction, property or water industries, or supporting workers in these industries.
• Experience working with regional, remote or priority cohorts.
• Experience in workforce transition, career development or government-funded programs.

This role operates in a dynamic pilot environment. Some national travel will be required.
