Reporting to the Director Vocational Education and Training, the Education Manager Short Courses provides educational, operational and people leadership for the delivery and growth of Short Courses, Institute Accredited Short Courses, Micro Credentials and other specialised programs within the Educational Excellence portfolio.

You will lead high-quality and compliant program delivery, workforce and resource management, student outcomes and the ongoing development of a contemporary and commercially sustainable short course portfolio.

A key focus of the role is identifying and developing new market opportunities, industry partnerships and education solutions that respond to workforce, industry and community needs. Working closely with Strategic Partnerships and Growth, industry, clients, subject matter experts and internal stakeholders, you will support portfolio expansion, enrolment and revenue growth while ensuring programs remain relevant, innovative and responsive to changing market demand.

What You'll Do

• Provide educational leadership for Short Courses, Institute Accredited Short Courses, Micro Credentials and other specialised programs, leading their planning, development, delivery, review and continuous improvement

• Lead contemporary, inclusive and learner-centred teaching, learning and assessment approaches, ensuring high-quality education products, resources and assessment practices that respond to learner, industry, workforce and community needs

• Lead and manage teaching and administrative staff, including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, staff allocation, rostering, professional development, performance and team capability

• Lead approaches that support student engagement, participation, retention, progression and successful learning outcomes, including oversight of student progress, enrolment preparation, course commencement and the resolution of student concerns

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the Short Courses program area, including course setup, scheduling, staff rosters, delivery preparation, resources, facilities and associated systems and reporting requirements

• Prepare, manage and monitor program budgets, forecasts, enrolments, expenditure and revenue performance, ensuring effective resource allocation, financial viability and commercial sustainability

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with industry, employers, government, community organisations and other stakeholders, identifying opportunities for partnerships, new initiatives and program development

• Work collaboratively with Strategic Partnerships and Growth and other stakeholders to identify market, workforce and industry needs and develop relevant education solutions that support portfolio, enrolment and revenue growth

• Ensure Short Courses comply with applicable VET standards, legislative requirements, Melbourne Polytechnic policies and procedures and relevant quality frameworks

• Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement across the program area, including course review, moderation, validation, audit readiness and the identification and management of systemic compliance and quality risks

• Minimum five years’ experience working within a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation environment in an educational leadership capacity

• Demonstrated significant educational leadership experience in the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of vocational education and training programs and courses

• Demonstrated capability to lead staff in the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative teaching materials, education products and services

• Sound knowledge and understanding of the vocational education and training sector and the training requirements of relevant industries, with the ability to translate identified needs into appropriate program design and delivery

• Demonstrated experience leading and developing teaching and administrative teams, including workforce planning, recruitment,onboarding, staff allocation, rostering, professional development and performance management

• Demonstrated organisational capability in the planning, development, implementation, operation and review of education programs, including course setup, scheduling and management of staff rosters

• Ability to manage budgets, forecasts, resources and competing operational priorities while maintaining program quality and financial viability

• Demonstrated ability to interpret and use enrolment, student, workforce, financial and performance data to support decision-making and continuous improvement

• Demonstrated ability to identify and develop opportunities for program growth, industry engagement, new education products and commercially sustainable delivery, responding to market, workforce and industry trends

• Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships and partnerships with students, staff, industry clients, employers, government, community organisations and other stakeholders

• Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and educational counselling skills, together with highly developed written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex educational, operational, staffing and student matters, exercise sound judgement, manage risk and implement practical solutions

• Demonstrated understanding of regulatory, quality and compliance requirements within the VET environment and the ability to lead continuous improvement

• Demonstrated commitment to workplace health, safety and wellbeing, equity, inclusion and quality assurance

Qualifications & Mandatory Checks

Appointment to this position is subject to meeting the qualification requirements under the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2024 and the successful completion of all mandatory employment checks.

Teaching Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the qualification requirements for Education Managers or Lead Educators under the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2024.

You will have:

• Vocational qualification and current industry experience relevant to the courses offered within the program portfolio, where applicable.

• An approved AQF Level 6 (or higher) teaching qualification, as defined by the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Agreement 2024, which includes:

  • Studies in adult learning methodology

  • Studies in teaching in a vocational education environment

  • Studies in applied research

  • A minimum of 200 hours of supervised teaching practicum

• Demonstrated educational leadership capability appropriate to the role

Mandatory Checks

• A valid Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee)

• A National Police Check
