Shopfitter / Carpenter & Joiner

POSITION SUMMARY

The role requires a skilled, independent and practical tradesperson who can complete new installations, alterations and repairs while ensuring supermarket fixtures remain safe, functional, presentable and suitable for a busy retail environment.

 MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Build, install, modify and maintain supermarket shelving, display units, counters, cabinetry and other retail fixtures across five supermarket locations.

• Carry out carpentry, joinery and general shopfitting works, including measuring, cutting, assembling, fitting and finishing materials.

• Repair damaged, loose or worn shelving and fixtures, prioritising urgent issues that may affect safety or store operations.

• Construct and install custom shelving, cabinetry, storage units and fixtures as required.

• Modify existing shelving and displays to accommodate changes in store layouts, product ranges and merchandising requirements.

• Conduct preventative maintenance and identify fixtures requiring repair, replacement or improvement.

• Coordinate works with store managers and plan jobs across all five locations to minimise disruption to customers and operations.

• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition and comply with all workplace health and safety requirements.

• Assist with store refurbishments, renovations, layout changes and other reasonable carpentry, joinery and maintenance duties as required.

 SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

•  Trade qualifications in carpentry, cabinetmaking or joinery

• Strong practical skills in building, installing and repairing shelving and retail fixtures.

• Ability to accurately measure, cut, assemble and install materials.

• Competence using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.

• Ability to diagnose problems and develop practical repair solutions.

• Good attention to detail and quality of workmanship.

• Ability to work independently and manage jobs across multiple locations.

• Good time management and ability to prioritise urgent repairs.

•  Ability to work safely in operating supermarkets around staff and customers.

• Good communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with store managers and other employees.

• Physical capacity to undertake manual handling and the practical requirements of the position.

• Current driver's licence and ability to travel between the five supermarket locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

• Requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays

• Fast-paced retail environment with physical demands (standing, lifting)
