Landfill Operations Lead

Play a key role in supporting the increase the recovery of reusable / recyclable materials and make a significant difference in our community!

As the Landfill Operations Lead, you will be required to be available to work both during weekdays and on weekends to enable daily operational leadership for the Alexandra Landfill and associated material transfer activities from Council's Resource Recovery Centres.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading landfill operations including waste placement, compaction, cover application and site maintenance.
• Coordinating the transfer of waste and recyclable materials (as required) from Council's Resource Recovery Centres.
• Supervising and supporting operational staff, including the Landfill Site Operator.
• Ensuring compliance with EPA requirements, Council policies and workplace safety obligations.
• Operating and overseeing plant and equipment used in landfill operations.
• Monitoring landfill performance and identifying opportunities for operational improvements.
• Maintaining operational records, monitoring waste volumes and contributing to reporting activities.
• Supporting emergency response and recovery operations when required.
• Building positive relationships with contractors, customers and community members.

What you will bring:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience in landfill, waste management, civil construction or similar operational environments.
• Experience leading, mentoring or supervising operational staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise initiative in solving operational issues.
• Proven ability to plan, coordinate and deliver operational activities safely and efficiently.
• Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to operate plant and equipment relevant to landfill operations.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work weekends, respond to operational issues and undertake physical outdoor work.
• Experience working within local government and knowledge of EPA waste and landfill requirements.
