Selective Breeding Program & Broodstock Coordinator

Lead people, systems and production outcomes across one of the most technically interesting areas of aquaculture.

We're looking for an experienced Selective Breeding Program & Broodstock Coordinator to lead our hatchery and broodstock operations. This hands-on leadership role oversees a team of 8–10 people and drives performance across RAS, flow-through and incubation systems.

This opportunity suits someone with strong aquaculture experience who enjoys balancing technical operations, people leadership, planning, fish welfare and continuous improvement. While salmon experience isn't essential, you'll need solid fish production knowledge and confidence operating in a commercial environment.

About the role

As SBP & Broodstock Coordinator, you'll help manage hatchery and broodstock systems while supporting key production activities including spawning, fish transfers, egg incubation, treatments, vaccinations, grading, tagging and sampling programs.

A core focus will be coordinating daily and weekly operations, turning production priorities into clear, safe and effective work plans for the team. You'll also play a key role in developing capability, coaching team members and building confidence in RAS operations to improve consistency and performance.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead, coach and support a team of approximately 8–10 people across hatchery and broodstock operations.
• Plan and coordinate daily and weekly work across RAS, flow-through, incubation and broodstock systems.
• Support key production activities including spawning, transfers, fertilisation, treatments, egg management, vaccinations, grading, tagging, ultra-sounding and genetic sampling.
• Monitor and manage water quality, system performance and daily operational routines.
• Contribute to stock flow, production planning, fish health surveillance, animal welfare and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support a strong WHS and biosecurity culture, including daily toolbox discussions and safe work practices.

About you

You’re a practical, calm and organised person who enjoys being close to the operation. You know how to plan the work, bring people with you, and keep standards high when things are busy.

You’ll bring:

• Strong aquaculture, hatchery, broodstock, RAS or fish production experience.
• Strong understanding of RAS systems, including how systems operate, what daily routines are required, and how to identify issues that need maintenance support.
• Confidence leading, coaching and motivating operational teams.
• Strong planning skills and the ability to translate production priorities into clear daily tasks.
• Good computer literacy, including Excel, data entry and reporting.
• A calm, practical approach to problem solving and conflict resolution.
• A strong WHS mindset and respect for fish welfare, biosecurity and the animals in our care.
• A valid driver’s licence and your own transport.

• A tertiary qualification in aquaculture, marine biology or a related field would be well regarded, but equivalent hands-on experience is just as valuable.
