Social Worker - Gumdale State School

Gumdale State School is seeking a qualified Social Worker with a passion for supporting students, families, and school communities. As a key member of a multi-disciplinary wellbeing team, you'll work directly with children to build their social and emotional skills, while also providing responsive support to those experiencing urgent needs.

About the Role:

This role is part of the Department of Education's Wellbeing Workforce, delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to students and families with mild to moderate mental health concerns. You'll also play a vital role in connecting families to external services and empowering them to support their child's emotional development.

Your Opportunity:

• Social Workers provide evidence-based therapeutic support to students with mild to moderate mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, crisis and relationship concerns.
• Assess student wellbeing and mental health needs to inform appropriate interventions
• Deliver individual and group counselling and therapeutic supports to students and families
• Provide support and ensure safety plans within the school context are implemented for students who are self-harming and/or at risk of suicide
• Apply knowledge of the mental health continuum to identify when external support is required and facilitate referrals to community agencies
• Work collaboratively with school leadership and student support teams to inform student support planning, and provide advice to teachers supporting students' mental health in the classroom
• Develop referral and case management processes to support delivery of the service
• Coordinate referrals, contribute to case management processes, and liaise with external stakeholders
• Provide advice and guidance to families to support student wellbeing
• Support school communities following critical incidents and emergencies as part of the school response team
