Community Health Promotion Officer - Regional Services Northern Rivers - Lismore

Job Description

As our Community Health Promotion Officer, you will lead ACON’s work alongside: 

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities 
• Culturally and Racially Marginalised people and communities 
• Overseas-born people and communities, including emerging regional populations

Rather than only focusing on delivering one-off projects, you will develop deep and trusted relationships with communities, partners and organisations across the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast.

You will translate community knowledge into health promotion initiatives that strengthen connections, improve health equity, and create lasting impact. 

Collaborating closely with Community Health Promotion colleagues across complementary population portfolios, you will contribute to a collaborative, intersectional approach to improving the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ communities throughout the region. 

Full-time 70 hours per fortnight based in our Bundjalung (Lismore) office with travel across the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast.

We are looking for an experienced Community Health Promotion Officer to join our Northern Rivers and Mid-North Coast team to help shape the next chapter of our practice. This is an exciting opportunity to work within ACON’s emerging Population Lead Model, a contemporary approach that recognises communities are not defined by single identities, but by the rich intersection of culture, gender, geography, age, migration, disability, and lived experience. 

Ok, so what’s the role?

As the Community Health Promotion Officer. You will:

• Build meaningful and enduring relationships with priority communities. 
• Design, deliver and evaluate evidence-informed community health promotion initiatives. 
• Develop strategic partnerships across health, community, government, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. 
• Facilitate workshops, peer education, outreach, and community development activities. 
• Identify emerging community priorities and translate these into practical responses. 
• Support HIV and STI prevention through culturally responsive community engagement. 
• Contribute to research, evaluation, and continuous improvement. 
• Work collaboratively across Community Programs to strengthen organisational practice and community outcomes.

• You are curious, reflective, and collaborative. You enjoy building trust with communities and understanding that sustainable health outcomes are created through relationships rather than transactions. 
• You recognise the ongoing impacts of colonisation, racism and structural inequity, and you bring a culturally safe, strengths-based, and community-led approach to your work. 
• You understand intersectionality not simply as theory, but as a practical framework for designing better health promotion.
• Most importantly, you are excited by the opportunity to contribute to an evolving model of community health promotion that places community knowledge, connection, and participation at the centre of practice. 

What else can we tell you?​​​

• Salary: Starting from $76,461.79 (Gross Annual Salary PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading).
• Location: ACON’s Bundjalung Lismore office, with travel across the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast. 
• Hours: Full-Time 70 hours per fortnight on an ongoing contract.
• Not-For-Profit Salary Packaging: Currently up to $35,000 gross up value, enabling you to keep more of your salary, and pay less tax ($15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
