About the role
We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Avonvale Education Support Centre caters for approximately 45 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Our specialised facilities are split across two campuses with early intervention and primary school students located at Avonvale Primary School, and secondary students located at Northam Senior High School.
Our whole school planning ensures the quality of our program delivery is comprehensive and current.
Our students are provided with individual education plans that cater to their strengths and needs. All our students learn the Western Australian Curriculum (with the necessary adjustments and modifications) which allows them to participate in age-appropriate lessons and activities.

The Role
Suitable applicants will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants should also provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students is desired.
Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community. Suitable applicants should ideally be compassionate and able to work collaboratively to implement documented plans.
Suitable applicants should ideally possess the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students and teachers. They should ideally have a strong knowledge of a range of evidence-based techniques for learning and behaviour and have some experience or knowledge of disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder.
