Bengalla Mining Company (a member of New Hope Group) is a joint venture with a strong track record of achievement. Our focus is on maintaining strong safety, productivity, and profitability results. We have a very collaborative team culture and a highly professional and rewarding work environment. Operational since 1999, Bengalla is in Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley, and supplies international markets with approximately 13 Mtpa.

Bengalla is an open cut coal mine offering a residential lifestyle. The development consent for the operation provides the ability to mine through to 2039. We pride ourselves on the professionalism with which we pursue our goals and our strong links into our community.

The Opportunity

Bengalla Mining Company is currently offering a Scholarship to a student entering University in 2027. This is up to a four-year scholarship valued at $8,500 per year. Alongside the scholarship, successful applicants will gain practical experience through paid vacation work.

Eligibility

For this opportunity you will need to be: 

• A Year 12 student in 2026 based in either the New England, Upper Hunter or Lower Hunter Regions. 
• Preparing to attend University full time in 2027 or currently completing the first year of University in 2026. 
• An Australian Citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.
• Prepared to participate in up to 10 weeks paid vacation work each year over the Summer periods.
• Must not hold an active Scholarship with any other Company or Organisation.

Enrolling in or currently completing your first year in any of the below disciplines:

• Mining Engineering
• Electrical Engineering / Reliability Engineering
• Processing Engineering / Chemical Engineering
• Health & Safety / Occupational Hygiene
