Full Time Cleaner - Residential College

Position Type: Full Time
Hours: 38 hours per week (Monday–Friday with occasional weekend support as required)
Commencement: Interviews will be held on the 31st of August - Candidates must be able to commence employment by the 14th of September 2026.

Union College is a residential community located on the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland. We provide high-quality accommodation, pastoral support and dining services to a diverse cohort of domestic and international tertiary students.

We are seeking a reliable, motivated and detail-focused Full-Time Cleaner to join our Operations & Facilities team. The role is responsible for ensuring rooms, common areas and office environments are maintained to an excellent standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

Key cleaning zones include:

• Student bedrooms and some ensuites

• Common rooms, lounges and study areas

• Dining hall and late meals room

• Office spaces and reception

• Resident communal bathrooms and showers

• Corridors, stairwells and entryways

• Laundry facilities

• Grounds cleanliness (light duties)

• Daily cleaning of designated residential and common areas

• Deep cleaning during student turnover and holiday periods

• Waste disposal and recycling

• Cleaning of high-touch surfaces and sanitation zones

• Maintaining storerooms, equipment and chemical registers

• Reporting maintenance issues and safety hazards to Operations team

• Supporting event setup/pack down when required

• Ensuring compliance with cleaning, hygiene and WHS standards

• Demonstrated experience in commercial or institutional cleaning

• Minimum of 1 year experience in commercial or institutional cleaning

• Be a person who has pride in their work and goes the extra mile

• Ability to work independently and within a small permanent team (3 cleaners)

• Strong attention to detail and time-management skills

• Commitment to safety, confidentiality and professionalism

• Physical capacity to undertake manual cleaning tasks

• Australian work rights required

• Current Blue Card and hold a blue card for the duration of employment

• Willingess to complete a Police Check

• Experience in residential accommodation or school/college environments

• Familiarity with WHS obligations and safe chemical use

• First Aid and CPR certifications (advantageous)
