About the role
Great opportunity to get off the tools | Kilmore, VIC
Females & Indigenous Applicants encouraged to Apply.
NLA Logistics is looking for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our team in Kilmore.
This is a great opportunity for a qualified mechanic who is ready to step away from being on the tools full-time while still using their mechanical knowledge and experience every day.
The role will be approximately 60% truck inspections and compliance checks and 40% mechanical work on our own fleet.
About the RoleA major part of this position will involve inspecting trucks to ensure they meet NLA Logistics' safety, compliance and site requirements before being allocated to major construction projects across Victoria.
You will also assist with servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance across our company-owned truck fleet.
Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting detailed truck and trailer safety inspections
Completing pre-engagement and yearly compliance inspections on subcontractor vehicles
Identifying mechanical defects, safety concerns and maintenance requirements
Ensuring vehicles meet NLA, NHVR and project-specific requirements
Checking tyres, brakes, lights, suspension, wheel nuts and other safety-critical components
Checking site-specific safety equipment including alarms, cameras, fire extinguishers, underrun protection and other required equipment
Recording inspection results and defects accurately
Communicating required repairs or rectification works to drivers and subcontractors
Carrying out servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs on NLA's own fleet, mostly brand new trucks so major repairs will be repaired by the dealer.
Diagnosing mechanical faults and completing repairs where required
Assisting with maintaining service schedules and vehicle maintenance records
Working closely with our Safety & Compliance and Operations teams to keep our fleet safe and compliant
We are looking for someone who has strong mechanical knowledge but is interested in moving into a role that is not 100% workshop based.
To be successful you will ideally have:
Trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle / Diesel Mechanic
Strong experience working with trucks, trailers and heavy vehicles
Excellent knowledge of vehicle safety and roadworthiness requirements
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
A high attention to detail
Good communication skills and the confidence to identify and report defects
Ability to complete inspection paperwork and electronic records accurately
Understanding of NHVR and heavy vehicle compliance requirements
Current driver's licence
Heavy Combination licence highly regarded
Previous truck inspection, roadworthy or fleet maintenance experience highly regarded
This position offers something different from a traditional mechanic role.
If you have spent years working on the tools and are looking for a role where your mechanical knowledge is just as important as your ability to repair a truck, this could be a great next step.
You will receive:
A varied role with approximately 60% inspections and 40% mechanical work
Less time continuously working on the tools
Full-time, stable employment
A Company Car
Work primarily based from our Kilmore facility
Opportunity to become an important part of our growing Safety & Compliance function
Exposure to a large fleet of company and subcontractor heavy vehicles
A role where your experience directly contributes to keeping trucks, drivers and construction sites safe
Supportive team environment within a growing transport business
NLA Logistics is a Melbourne-based truck hire and logistics company supplying heavy vehicles to major civil infrastructure and construction projects throughout Victoria.
We operate a large network of company and subcontractor trucks and place a strong emphasis on vehicle safety, compliance and preventative maintenance.
As our operations continue to grow, we are strengthening our internal inspection and maintenance capabilities and are looking for an experienced mechanic who wants to grow with the business.
If you're an experienced heavy vehicle mechanic looking to get off the tools full-time without leaving the industry, we'd love to hear from you.
