What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and emotionally grounded Disability Support Worker to support Argi, based in Cremorne Point, NSW.
We are particularly looking for a female support worker who is patient, calm, encouraging, and experienced in supporting people with mental health challenges and neurodiversity. Experience supporting individuals with Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, trauma backgrounds, and epilepsy/seizure disorders would be highly beneficial.
The ideal candidate will have strong life experience and understand the importance of providing trauma-informed, person-centred, and empowering support. Argi benefits from clear and direct communication, particularly as she may experience difficulty interpreting metaphors or indirect communication.
A genuine understanding of neurodiversity, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, mental health, and individual autonomy is important for this role. The successful worker should also be respectful and supportive of Argi's vegan lifestyle.
A current driver's licence and reliable vehicle are essential, as driving and community transport will be a key component of the role.
Responsibilities Of The Role
Support Argi to reduce social isolation and increase her community connection and participation.Assist Argi in exploring and pursuing volunteering opportunities that align with her interests and goals.Provide community access and support Argi to participate in meaningful activities.Safely drive and transport Argi to community activities and appointments as required.Provide appropriate support when Argi accesses public transport.Build a strong, respectful, and trusting relationship with Argi while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.Utilise a person-centred and trauma-informed approach when providing support.Provide calm and reassuring support during periods of overwhelm or emotional distress.Encourage Argi to make her own decisions and participate in activities rather than taking a directive approach.Communicate clearly, directly, and respectfully, particularly when discussing plans, expectations, or activities.Assist Argi with decluttering, organising belongings, and selling unwanted items as part of her goal of adopting a more minimalist lifestyle.Encourage independence, confidence, choice, and control in all aspects of support.Demonstrate respect for Argi's identity, values, lifestyle choices, and personal autonomy.Maintain appropriate progress notes and documentation relating to supports provided.
Applicants Must Have
Female support worker preferred.Experience in Disability Support, Mental Health Support, or a related field.Experience supporting individuals with mental health challenges and/or neurodiversity.A trauma-informed and person-centred approach.Strong understanding of neurodiversity; neurodivergent lived experience is highly regarded.Experience supporting individuals with Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, trauma backgrounds, and/or epilepsy/seizure disorders is highly regarded.Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and directly.A calm, patient, grounded, and encouraging personality.LGBTQIA+ and queer-friendly.Respect and understanding of vegan lifestyles and individual choices.Current Working with Children Check (WWCC). NDIS Worker Screening Check. First Aid Certificate.Valid Driver's Licence. Reliable vehicle.Willingness and ability to provide transport and community access support.
