Legal Counsel – Litigation Practice Group
The opportunity
As our legal counsel you’ll join the in-house legal team at EY in the General Counsel’s Office (GCO) to provide 18 months’ parental leave cover. This is an opportunity to work in a sophisticated in-house disputes team and to build relationships with experienced internal clients. Through a diverse range of legal work and exposure to the complex legal issues affecting a top four professional services firm, you will develop a bespoke set of legal skills.
This role is based in Warrang – Sydney.
Your Key Responsibilities
Managing and advising on a range of disputes and litigated mattersManaging contentious investigations and enquiries by Australian regulatorsBriefing and instructing external solicitors, barristers and internal and external expertsAttending mediations and settlement conferencesInstructing and assisting in preparation for hearingsLiaising with and reporting to a wide variety of stakeholders including EY’s executive, global GCO colleagues and insurersResponding to and advising on orders for document productionSupporting senior litigation lawyers
Skills And Attributes For Success
Current Australian practising certificate6+ years post admission experienceExperience as an in-house lawyer, ideally with some top tier law private practice experienceThe ability to provide strategic commercial advice to stakeholders across the businessHighly developed communication and negotiation skillsPragmatic problem-solving skills and the ability to think creativelyAbility to work autonomously and to escalate when required

Some experience in employment law and/or regulatory work.A flexible, proactive approach, and an optimistic outlook.The drive to be able to manage a wide variety of work with a growth mindset and positive approach.
