About the role
The Metropolitan Community Residency Program (CRP) is a respected, competitive, and valuable training opportunity for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) in Western Australia. Delivered in partnership with Silverchain, this program offers RMOs the chance to expand their clinical capabilities within a supported and intellectually stimulating community care environment.
This rotation is particularly suited to RMOs seeking to strengthen their clinical independence and decision-making skills while gaining insight into the delivery of palliative care in a metropolitan community setting. This is one of the only opportunities available to RMOs to experience community care in a metropolitan setting prior to making a vocational decision.
Program Overview
Eligible RMOs will complete a palliative care rotation with Silverchain while remaining contracted and salaried by their Primary Employing Health Service. The CRP term is offered by secondment and is available to RMOs employed at:
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Application Process
Interested candidates are required to submit the following via the ‘Supporting Documents’ section of their MedCareersWA application:
Successful applicants will be required to provide Silver Chain with additional credentialing information & documentation. The request will be issued approximately 8 weeks before the commencement of the term with all documentation due two weeks before the term begins.
This placement offers a unique and formative experience that supports professional growth, clinical development, and informed career decision-making.
We encourage eligible RMOs to apply and take advantage of this rare opportunity to work in a leading community-based healthcare setting.

General Practice and Additional Primary Care Opportunities
In addition to the Metropolitan Community Residency Program (CRP), RMOs may express interest in participating in The Australian Primary Care Prevocational Program (APCPP) – Metro pilot commencing in 2027. Interest in APCPP may be indicated either in addition to, or independently of, a CRP application.
The APCPP Metro pilot will offer a limited number of short-term (10–11 week) rotations in metropolitan primary care settings, including general practice and Aboriginal Medical Services. Similar to the CRP, successful participants will remain employed and salaried by their Primary Employing Health Service and undertake the rotation on secondment.
As this is a pilot program currently under development, this constitutes an expression of interest only. Placement locations and detailed program arrangements are still being finalised, and participation will be subject to a separate selection process. RMOs selected for the APCPP will be provided with further information as it becomes available.
Eligibility (APCPP Metro pilot):
RMOs with an interest in primary care, community-based training, or general practice pathways are encouraged to indicate their interest.
RMOs interested in pursuing General Practice (GP) training more broadly are also encouraged to explore the GP Hospital Training Pathway (GPHTP), which provides access to hospital rotations aligned with GP training goals and supports progression into vocational GP training.
