Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is Victoria’s newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity

The Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) is expanding, and we're seeking an organised, innovative and motivated Project Officer to support a range of strategic initiatives across our statewide service. This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of projects that strengthen mental health outcomes for some of Victoria's most vulnerable young people.

Working closely with the FYMHS Stream Lead and senior clinical and operational leaders, you will support projects across both Community and Custodial FYMHS, including service expansion initiatives, workforce implementation, operational readiness planning, quality improvement activities, stakeholder engagement and service development projects. A key focus will be supporting the establishment of Custodial FYMHS services at the newly reopened Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct (MYJP) and other strategic priorities across the statewide Community FYMHS program.

About You

We are seeking an experienced Project Officer with demonstrated experience supporting the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of projects within a complex service environment. You will be highly organised, able to translate strategic priorities into practical project activities, and confident working with multiple stakeholders to keep projects progressing against agreed deliverables and timeframes.

You will have experience developing and maintaining project documentation, monitoring milestones and deliverables, coordinating governance and stakeholder activities, identifying and escalating project risks and issues, and preparing high-quality reports, briefs and communications for senior leaders.

Ideally, you will bring experience within health, mental health, government, justice, human services or another complex public-sector environment, with an understanding of the challenges involved in implementing new services, programs or models of care across multiple teams and locations.

Demonstrated experience working in a Project Officer, Project Coordinator or similar project-focused role, supporting projects from planning through to implementation and evaluation.Experience developing and maintaining project plans, implementation schedules, action registers, risk and issue registers, governance documentation and progress reports.Demonstrated ability to monitor project milestones, deliverables and dependencies, identify emerging risks or barriers, and support timely resolution or escalation.Experience supporting project governance, working groups, stakeholder consultations and implementation activities involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing briefing papers, reports, presentations, meeting papers, project updates and executive-level communications.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities within agreed timelines.Experience supporting service development, service implementation, operational readiness, quality improvement or organisational change is highly desirable.Experience working within public health, mental health, government, justice or human services is highly desirable.Relevant tertiary qualification in project management, health administration, public health, business, social sciences, health sciences or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
