Expression of Interest - Commercial Consultant

SAHR is seeking expressions of interest from Commercial Consultants for full time-permanent opportunities supporting current and upcoming Defence and Federal Government programs. We partner with government agencies, prime contractors, and industry leaders to deliver specialised high‑trust, complex across some of Australia's most complex and strategically significant programs.

The Opportunity

As part of SAHR's growing Commercial and Finance service line, you will contribute to the delivery of Federal Government and Defence capability programs across complex procurement activities, contract management and delivery.

Our engagements provide the opportunity to work closely with Defence stakeholders, program offices, capability managers, and industry partners on critical national capability initiatives.

As a Commercial Consultant, you will support Defence clients across the full commercial lifecycle, including:

• Defence‑specific procurement and contracting activities

• Tender development, evaluation and negotiation

• Commercial risk and governance support

• Legal and commercial advisory inputs to senior stakeholders

• Providing practical advice in complex environments

This role is hands‑on and is well suited to candidates who understand how Defence and APS operate.

We are actively interested in professionals with experience across:

·       Commercial management

·       Contract management

·       Material Procurement

·       Defence procurement

·       Tender experience

Who We’re Looking For

We are primarily interested in candidates at:

• Level 2 Consultant (APS5/ APS6 equivalent)

• Level 3 Consultant (approx. 8–10 years’ experience, EL1 / EL2 equivalent)

Ideal Background

You are likely to come from one or more of the following:

• Defence or Defence‑adjacent organisations

• NDIA combined with private sector or consulting experience

• Paralegals or legal professionals

• APS 5 or 6 professionals who have recently transitioned into, or are ready to transition into, consulting or advisory‑style roles.

• Roles with strong tendering, contracts and procurement exposure

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrated Defence experience

• Legal qualification or strong legal/commercial background

• Experience in tendering and procurement (Defence context strongly preferred)

• Ability to operate in sensitive, relationship‑driven environments

Security Clearance

• NV1 or higher required (Baseline considered depending on role and project)
