About the role
At Stern Law, we specialise in Personal Injury, particularly Medical Negligence, as well as doing Wills and Estates, Conveyancing, Succession Disputes and Workers Compensation Claims.
We are looking for a Paralegal/Law student who is able to work 3-4 days a week during university sessions and additional hours over University breaks.
We are flexible with study and University commitments.
You will be assisting our principal Terence Stern OAM with decision-maker work for the Personal Injury Commission (‘PIC’) and with Medical Negligence, Public Liability and Estates claims.
You will also be handling conveyancing/property matters with guidance from Mr Stern. Experience with PEXA is required.
This role will balance administrative support and real litigious legal work. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of litigation matters, particularly those involving complex medical negligence disputes and the opportunity to assist on interesting cases.
Key responsibilities:
General administration duties i.e., managing reception, answering and transferring calls, and diary management etc.
Correspondence with clients, defendant solicitors and counsel.
Transcribing dictation, particularly decisions for the PIC involving motor vehicle accidents.
Scheduling of appointments and hearings for PIC matters and dealing with case managers.
Assistance with case preparation for litigation matters.
Collating and editing briefs to liability experts and barristers.
Legal research, general administrative support.

Requirements for Applicants:
Current enrolment in a law degree.
Interest in Medical Negligence and Tort Law in general.
Strong research, analytical and writing skills.
Experience working in conveyancing and using PEXA.
Prior experience in an office/legal role.
