We provide language training and cultural capability services across a range of sectors including Defence, government, not-for-profit organisations, and the corporate sector. Operating nationally, our team brings extensive experience in language education, cultural awareness, and workforce capability development.

About DFSLThe Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) has supported the language capability of the Australian Defence Force for more than 75 years. DFSL equips Defence personnel with critical language and intercultural skills required for operational, diplomatic, and international engagement roles.
Contract DetailsLocation: Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL), RAAF Williams, Laverton VICContract Period: 18 January 2027 to 10 December 2027Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to FridayPositions Available: Up to 4Teaching Load: Up to 20 teaching hours per week, with additional time allocated for lesson preparation, assessment, and course development.
About this RoleWorking under the guidance of DFSL staff, you will deliver high-quality Chinese language training to Defence personnel undertaking the Chinese Modular Proficiency Course.Responsibilities include:• Deliver engaging and effective Chinese language instruction• Facilitate learning for adult learners in a professional environment• Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback• Prepare lessons and support course development activities• Contribute to assessment and moderation processes• Collaborate with DFSL staff and fellow instructors• Potentially participate in Defence-supported International Immersion Training activities.
About YouEssential:Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin ChineseHigh level of written and spoken EnglishCertificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) OR a tertiary qualification in Teaching/EducationLanguage teaching experienceStrong digital literacy and confidence using learning technologiesSound understanding of Chinese language, culture, society, and contemporary teaching methodologies.
Highly DesirableUniversity Chinese teaching experienceSecondary school Chinese teaching experienceTAFE or adult education experienceCurriculum design and course development experienceExperience teaching adult learnersPrevious experience within Defence or similar government training environments
