About the team/About the role:

The Daffodil Centre is a strategic initiative of the Cancer Council NSW (CCNSW) and the University of Sydney, underpinned by a formal affiliation and collaboration agreement. As a world-leading population and health services cancer research centre, it provides key evidence to influence policy decisions and real-world improvements along the cancer continuum. The Centre combines the complementary strengths of CCNSW and the University of Sydney to create a centre of national and international research excellence where research contributes to a cancer free future.

The Clinical Trial Liaison plays a critical role in supporting The Daffodil Centre’s new PC2-certified molecular research laboratory and expanding precision cancer prevention programs by ensuring high-quality, consistent sample and data collection across clinical, cohort, screening, hospital, and general practice sites. Reporting to the Head of Research Translation, the role develops collection protocols and SOPs, provides hands-on training and support to research nurses, collection teams, and self-sampling participants, and ensures sites are equipped to collect, handle, and dispatch biological samples accurately and compliantly. Working closely with ethics, data management, project coordination, and laboratory teams, the position serves as the key link between collection sites and the research program, enabling the successful delivery of high-quality research samples and data.

Key responsibilities of the role: 

• Develop and maintain collection protocols, SOPs, training resources, and participant-facing materials to ensure consistent and compliant sample collection across research studies.
• Provide site onboarding, training, and ongoing support to research nurses, collection teams, and self-sampling participants across diverse clinical and community settings.
• Coordinate study and clinical trial operations, including site activation, protocol implementation, stakeholder communication, and maintenance of study documentation and records.
• Manage collection quality and sample logistics, ensuring samples are correctly collected, labelled, handled, packaged, and transported to the laboratory in accordance with study requirements.
• Support ethics, governance, and compliance activities, maintaining audit-ready records and ensuring adherence to consent conditions, privacy legislation, and approved protocols.
• Act as the key liaison between collection sites and research programs, building strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality sample and data collection outcomes.

About you:

Essential:

• Tertiary qualifications in nursing, biomedical science, health science, clinical research, or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
• Familiarity with GCP and relevant clinical trial standards.
• Demonstrated experience developing protocols, SOPs, or work instructions for clinical or research sample collection.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating and supporting clinical sites, research nurses, or collection teams across a range of settings (e.g. general practice, hospital, or screening sites), ideally across multiple sites.
• Strong understanding of ethics, consent, privacy, and governance requirements for human participants and biological specimens.
• Demonstrated agility and ability to work at pace, adapting protocols and producing clear participant- and volunteer-facing materials (e.g. instructional videos, guides) quickly as study needs change.

Desirable: 

• Clinical research expertise, including nursing registration or experience as a Research Nurse or Clinical Trial Coordinator within clinical, cancer, screening, or precision prevention settings.
• Training and participant support experience, with the ability to develop training materials, deliver site training, and support self-sampling or direct-to-participant collection programs through engaging educational resources.
• Multi-site operational and logistics coordination, including managing sample shipments, cold-chain logistics, and supporting geographically distributed collection networks.
