About the Role

Perth Children’s Hospital Critical Care (PCC) unit is seeking a Clinical Nurse – Safety and Quality to join our multidisciplinary team and play a key role in maintaining compliance and enabling the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care to children and their families.

You will be responsible for developing, analysing, implementing and monitoring safety and quality improvement activities within PCC. You will play a key role in monitoring and supporting the achievement of PCC and PCH safety and quality key performance indicators and compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

Using your clinical expertise, analytical skills and knowledge of evidence-based practice, you will identify risks and opportunities for improvement and translate these into meaningful and sustainable changes in clinical practice.

A key focus of the role will be supporting clinical staff to understand and apply quality improvement principles, participate in clinical audits, and use data and evidence to evaluate and improve practice.

Working closely with nursing, medical and allied health professionals, you will contribute to clinical practice reviews, policy and guideline reviews, clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives that support the delivery of safe, high-quality and evidence-based nursing care.

You will also be responsible for the collection, coding, analysis and interpretation of clinical and quality data to inform decision-making, monitor performance and evaluate the effectiveness of improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include

• Reviewing clinical practice, policies, guidelines and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure care is evidence based.
• Collecting, monitoring and analysing quality and clinical data to evaluate the effectiveness of change and inform decision-making.
• Supporting the collection and quality of ANZPIC data, QUOKA auditing and Quality Improvement Plans.
• Monitoring and reviewing nursing practice, clinical pathways, policies and procedures, supporting a risk management approach to patient care.
• Identifying opportunities for innovation and facilitating the implementation of sustainable improvements in clinical practice.
• Contributing to education and professional development programs for nursing and medical staff.
• Providing clinical supervision and support to less experienced nursing staff within the practice setting.
• Promoting a positive culture of teamwork, shared decision-making, patient safety and continuous improvement.

About Our Team:

Paediatric Critical Care comprises the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and is one of the specialised services at Western Australia’s only tertiary children’s hospital. The Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) unit at PCH offers a state-wide intensive care service for critically ill infants, children and young people.

Nurses in PCC are responsible for the care of sick and injured children as well as their post-surgical care. This includes complex Cardiothoracic, Ear Nose and Throat and Neurosurgery. PCC has access to the latest technology and innovation and is a Centre for Intensive Care research. PCC also forms part of the hospital’s emergency response and medical emergency team. The PCC unit is a Level 3 Intensive Care Unit and offers a range of complex services including an ECMO service.
