About the role
Be bold. Be creative. Be part of the fight for a green and peaceful future.
At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we believe a better world is possible and we’re determined to make it real. We are an independent campaigning organisation, powered by people and creative action, taking on the biggest environmental and climate challenges of our time. Our priorities are:
tackling climate change by stopping emissions from fossil fuel extraction at source; and
protecting nature, including our oceans and forests, by stopping the largest sources of environmental destruction like industrial fishing and deforestation.
Whatever your role at GPAP, you’ll be part of something bigger: a passionate global movement that sparks action, holds decision‑makers to account, and drives lasting change for people and the planet. This is an opportunity to use your skills, creativity, and commitment to help shape a future worth fighting for.
Role: Full time, Fixed Term Contract until April 2027
Location: Flexible - Open to candidates Australia wide
Travel: Domestic travel within Australia - primarily during October and November 2026
Due to the urgency of the role, we are seeking a candidate who can start immediately. We will be reviewing applications as they come in and will commence interviews as suitable applicants come through.
This role will report to the Digital Engagement Manager and be a part of a team of experts across digital engagement, creative partnerships, social media and digital campaigning with two Digital Campaigners reporting directly to this role.
We expose environmental crimes, hold companies and governments to account, promote climate solutions and inspire others to create positive change.
Get ready to step onto the frontlines of history. Joining this team means diving headfirst into some of our most ambitious climate action yet: with Greenpeace International's vessel, the legendary Rainbow Warrior coming to our shores, we are taking the opportunity to rally communities and push back against fossil fuel expansion.
You won't just be watching from the sidelines, you’ll have the rare, hands-on opportunity to work on the boats, rolling up your sleeves and work on high-impact Non-Violent Direct Actions for our Stop Big Gas campaign. If you’ve ever wanted to turn your climate anxiety into tangible, unstoppable momentum on the water, this is your moment.
The stakes couldn't be higher, and the timing couldn't be more critical. As we gear up for the Pre-COP and COP31 projects, your work will help shape the global narrative, putting immense pressure on decision-makers when the world’s eyes are on us.
This is more than a job; it’s a chance to sail alongside relentless changemakers, master creative frontline tactics, and execute campaigns that actually move the needle. Ready to make some noise and leave a legacy?
Welcome aboard.
As the Engagement Lead, you’ll be at the heart of how Greenpeace connects with people online. You’ll develop engagement strategies that go far beyond petitions – building powerful journeys that move supporters from interest to action, through to leadership and advocacy.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead the design and delivery of ambitious, innovative digital engagement strategies across multiple national and global climate campaigns across Australia and the Pacific.
Sail alongside our Boat Team and Crew to capture and create engaging content for our digital channels during key campaign moments on our vessels.
Collaborate with campaigners, creatives, researchers and digital specialists to align engagement across channels.
Guide and mentor a small team of Digital Campaigners, helping lift GPAP’s digital expertise and capacity.
Monitor and analyse engagement metrics, identifying opportunities to grow our supporter base and deepen impact.
Ensure GPAP stays at the cutting edge of digital campaigning, driving experimentation and innovation.
This is a leadership role working across the organisation, making sure our digital engagement is coordinated, impactful, and inspiring.
You’re a digital strategist who thrives where creativity meets data. You’re comfortable leading teams, mentoring others, and collaborating across diverse disciplines. You know how to engage people online in ways that drive real action.
You’ll ideally also have:
Annual full-time salary: $120,525.69 per annum + 12% superannuation.
Greenpeace is an equal opportunity employer with a longstanding commitment of providing a work environment that respects the dignity and worth of each individual. We recognise and value the benefits and strengths that diversity brings to our employees and the whole organisation and we thrive in an environment that encourages respect and trust.
Note: Not all responsibilities and competencies listed in the Job Description need to be addressed; it is left to the discretion of the applicant which to focus on.
We respectfully request that Recruitment Agencies do not submit applications for this position.
Interviews will commence as suitable candidates apply.
