About the role

Catalano Truck & Equipment Sales & Hire Pty Ltd is seeking a 3rd/4th Year Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity to complete your apprenticeship with a well-established business in the automotive trades sector, specialising in heavy diesel vehicles and equipment. Based in Kenwick, WA, this role offers hands-on experience working with complex diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy-duty machinery. As you approach the final years of your apprenticeship, you will work alongside experienced mechanics to develop advanced technical skills whilst contributing meaningfully to our service operations.

Key responsibilities

• Performing maintenance and repairs on heavy diesel engines, transmissions, and drivetrain components

• Diagnosing mechanical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge

• Conducting scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment

• Replacing and repairing hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and suspension components

• Welding and fabricating components where required

• Keeping accurate records of work completed and maintenance performed

• Following workplace health and safety procedures and protocols at all times

• Collaborating with experienced mechanics and supervisors to complete complex jobs

• Supporting the team to meet service delivery deadlines and maintain customer satisfaction

What we're looking for

• Currently enrolled in or nearing completion of a 3rd or 4th year Heavy Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

• Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and engineering drawings

• A reliable and punctual work ethic with a commitment to completing tasks to a high standard

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Full current driver's licence (preferred)

• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements in the automotive industry

• Physical capability to lift heavy components and work in various positions

• Willingness to continue learning and developing technical expertise
