Planning Analyst

• Remuneration: Level 7 from $118k + 17% superannuation and leave loading

Why your role matters

The Planning Analyst is a specialist role supporting the delivery of the Strategy & Planning function within the Registrar & Student Services (RaSS) portfolio. The role provides analytical and planning expertise to build a strong evidence base across service mapping, demand analysis, performance management and cost-to-serve modelling, supporting opportunities to enhance services through the development of a new operating model for RaSS.

Working across the portfolio, the Planning Analyst delivers high-quality analysis, reporting and planning support to help the Manager, Business Strategy & Planning and the Head, Strategy & Planning understand current operations, identify opportunities for improvement and inform evidence-based decision-making. The role also contributes to the delivery of the agreed Strategy & Planning work program, working collaboratively with stakeholders across RaSS to translate data and insights into practical recommendations and improvements.

Reporting to the Manager, Business Strategy & Planning, this role provides an opportunity to apply analytical expertise to complex business challenges and contribute to the future development of services across a diverse and evolving portfolio.

Specific accountabilities include:

• Support the design and delivery of strategic planning and performance frameworks, providing specialist analysis and insights to inform planning and decision-making.
• Develop and maintain analytical models and dashboards to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities, supporting long-term strategic planning.
• Contribute to the preparation of planning documents, business cases, reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.
• Gather and interpret business requirements from stakeholders across the Division and University, and translate those requirements into analytical outputs and planning support materials.

About You:

• A relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience supporting strategic planning or performance initiatives in a higher education setting.
• Demonstrated experience in data analysis, reporting, and performance monitoring, ideally within a large or complex organisation, as well as the ability to develop and interpret data models.
• Experience engaging with stakeholders and contributing to discussions with senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage defined projects independently.
• Strong understanding of institutional planning in a higher education context.
• Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar for data analysis and visualisation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly and concisely.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage effectively with stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
