Nexis Accountants is seeking a Business Services Manager / Senior Accountant with SMSF Specialisation to join our dynamic team in Canberra.
This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity for a specialist in Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF) to work both in the SMSF and Tax and Business Services space managing a portfolio of clients. This is suited to someone who is looking to develop their career in a progressive accounting firm. In this role, you will take responsibility for managing a portfolio of both Tax and SMSF clients, providing expert taxation and accounting advice, and contributing to the strategic growth of our firm's SMSF division.
You will work collaboratively with our experienced team whilst maintaining a level of autonomy in client management and service delivery.
Key responsibilities
Manage and service a portfolio of SMSF clients, providing comprehensive accounting, taxation and compliance services
Prepare, review and lodge SMSF tax returns, financial statements and other regulatory documentation in accordance with relevant legislation
Provide strategic taxation advice to SMSF trustees, identifying opportunities for tax optimisation and compliance
Manage the organisation of SMSF audits (via external auditor) and ensure compliance with superannuation law and Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements
Advise clients on SMSF administration and compliance
Maintain accurate and detailed client records and ensure all work meets firm quality standards
Mentor and support junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of professional development
Liaise with clients, financial advisers, solicitors and other stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery
Stay abreast of changes to superannuation law, taxation legislation and ATO guidelines
Contribute to the development and refinement of SMSF service offerings and processes
What we're looking for
Relevant accounting or taxation qualification (ideally CA with SMSF specialist accreditation)
Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience in taxation and accounting, with substantial experience in SMSF
In-depth knowledge of superannuation law, SMSF regulations and ATO compliance requirements
Demonstrated expertise in preparing SMSF tax returns, financial statements and audit documentation
Strong understanding of taxation strategy and planning for self-managed superannuation funds
Excellent client management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
Proficiency with accounting software (CLASS) and tax preparation tools commonly used in Australian practice
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple client portfolios effectively
Professional and ethical approach to client service and confidentiality
Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Willingness to pursue or maintain professional development and continuing education credentials
