The Department

The Chronic Respiratory Disease Research Group, led by Prof Natasha Smallwood, focuses on understanding how people experience symptoms like breathlessness, or psychological distress associated with severe lung disease. Our research investigates and tests new treatments, management approaches or models of care to address symptoms and provide holistic, patient-centred care.

The Role

In the role as a Research Nurse, you will work on research projects that aim to improve challenging symptoms (e.g., chronic breathlessness) for people with chronic respiratory disease. This Research Nurse role will primarily work on our “Primary Breathe Australia” clinical trial and process evaluation, which will determine if a non-pharmacological, breathlessness self-management intervention delivered in the community helps relieve breathlessness.

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
• Current and satisfactory Police Check
• Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check

Desirable

• Experience working in primary care, respiratory medicine or palliative care
• Experience in the preparation and submission of research papers and presentation

Key Capabilities

• Proven people and communication skills include relationship building, cooperation, conflict resolution, influencing others and facilitating open discussions.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and with others to deliver outcomes.
• Understanding the principles of confidentiality and application of research studies.
