Support and advocate for the success of First Nations medical students at Charles Darwin University (CDU)

About the Position
CDU is the only Northern Territory (NT) based university and as a place-based regional university it is deeply embedded in our local communities and is planning to deliver a new medical program that is tailored specifically to the needs of our local community. The purpose is to establish a medical program at CDU to graduate and retain more First Nations and local resident doctors in the NT to serve the NT community. The admissions process positively selects for NT First Nations and NT resident students knowing that students drawn from local communities are more likely to remain in those communities when they graduate. 

As the First Nations Medical Student Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and advocating for the success of First Nations medical students. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around fostering a supportive environment, providing resources, and advocating for the needs of First Nations students in the CDU Menzies Medical Program.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

• Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of First Nations peoples.
• Experience in the health sector or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and perspectives, particularly as they relate to healthcare and education.
• Experience working with First Nations communities, preferably in an educational or healthcare capacity.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to apply specialist knowledge and skills to information technology such as CDU’s internal governance, management, and administration systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex academic settings.
• Commitment to the University’s values.

Remuneration 
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee Level 7. The base salary will be in the range of $96,559-105,992 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $112,974 - $124,010 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
