About the role
Hutchison Ports Australia is seeking a Risk and Compliance Advisor to support risk, compliance, assurance and HSEQ activities across our Australian terminals.
This role is suited to someone with experience in risk, compliance, auditing, HSEQ, assurance or continuous improvement who enjoys working with operational teams, improving systems, supporting audits, maintaining registers and turning compliance requirements into practical business outcomes.
As the Risk and Compliance Advisor, you will support auditing, risk management, compliance monitoring, HSEQ document control, emergency preparedness activities and reporting. You will work with internal stakeholders, external auditors, regulatory officers, consultants and Hutchison Ports Group Compliance to help ensure the business maintains strong governance, compliance and assurance practices.

About the RoleReporting to the Manager – Risk and Compliance, the Risk and Compliance Advisor will support Hutchison Ports Sydney and Hutchison Ports Brisbane through the implementation of risk, compliance and assurance activities.
You will assist with audits, inspections, risk assessments, compliance monitoring, HSEQ document reviews, emergency preparedness exercises, reporting and records management.
The role will also support the maintenance of the Corporate Risk Register, HSEQ Management System, document control and reporting processes that support informed business decision-making.
What You’ll Be DoingConduct audits in accordance with the approved Audit Program and undertake additional audits, inspections or reviews as required.
Develop and maintain audit, compliance monitoring and assurance tools.
Participate in external audits and regulatory inspections.
Support the preparation of responses to regulatory officers, auditors and consultants.
Monitor and maintain the Corporate Risk Register, including risk reviews and risk treatment action tracking.
Facilitate and participate in risk assessments across the business.
Identify operational compliance, safety and environmental risks and recommend appropriate controls.
Coordinate the review and update of policies, procedures and documents within the HSEQ Management System.
Communicate changes to the HSEQ Management System and Safe Operating Procedures to relevant staff.
Manage the company SharePoint site for the HSEQ Management System.
Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including emergency response exercises and drills.
Maintain emergency exercise records, track corrective actions and prepare post-exercise reports.
Act as a key liaison with Hutchison Ports Group Compliance on Internal Controls and Risk Management activities.
Collect, analyse and interpret operational, compliance, risk and safety data.
Prepare quarterly, annual and ad hoc compliance, risk and HSEQ performance reports.
Support HSEQ projects and organisational initiatives.
Maintain accurate records, registers and filing systems relating to compliance, risk assessments, monitoring results and reports.
You are organised, detail-focused and practical in your approach to risk and compliance.
You can work with different stakeholders across the business, interpret information clearly, maintain accurate records, and support compliance activities in a way that is useful and operationally realistic.
You will be comfortable working across audit programs, compliance monitoring, risk assessments, documentation systems, reporting and continuous improvement activities.
You do not need to come from ports, but experience in an operational, industrial, logistics, infrastructure, transport, HSEQ, compliance or risk environment would be highly regarded.
Skills and ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you will bring:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a risk, compliance, audit, HSEQ or related role.
Knowledge of WHS, environmental and other applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
Formal auditing qualification.
Experience conducting audits, including the development of audit tools or questionnaires.
Experience facilitating risk assessments or supporting compliance, assurance or continuous improvement activities.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare policies, procedures, reports and other business documentation.
Strong analytical and organisational skills.
Ability to interpret complex information and present clear, practical and meaningful reports.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record keeping.
Experience coordinating emergency response exercises, drills or post-exercise reporting.
Experience with document control systems and Microsoft SharePoint.
Experience preparing compliance, risk, audit or HSEQ performance reports.
Exposure to operational, industrial, transport, logistics, infrastructure, ports or heavy industry environments.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the business.
Proactive mindset with an interest in risk, compliance, assurance and continuous improvement.
