Lead InvestigatorFull-time – 12-month contractCamberwell, VIC
About the RoleThe Lead Investigator leads investigations, case reviews and quality improvement activities across BaptistCare, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, accreditation and funder requirements. The role identifies practice trends and risks, develops mitigation strategies, and drives consistent, timely investigations and continuous improvement to reduce critical incidents and organisational risk.
Reporting to the Investigations Manager, this full-time, 12-month maximum-term role is focused almost entirely on reportable conduct investigations. Your day-to-day will include:
Leading reportable conduct investigations end-to-end, from planning through to submission of investigation reports to the regulatorDeveloping and maintaining investigation plans in line with Victorian legislative obligationsPrepare investigation reports, findings and recommendations.Monitor incident trends, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.Drive continuous improvement through practice reviews, gap analysis and service improvements.Ensure compliance with regulatory, funding and quality requirements.Develop best-practice investigation processes, tools and training.Manage project risks, issues and reporting to key stakeholders.Build effective relationships with operational teams, leadership, regulators and funders.Promote a culture of quality, child safety, accountability and customer-focused service.
What You'll BringHands-on experience conducting investigations within the Victorian foster care or kinship care sectorSound working knowledge of Victorian out-of-home care legislation, reportable conduct schemes, and processesProven ability to conduct defensible investigations using structured, evidence-based methodologiesExceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate investigation reports for regulatory audiencesStrong organisational discipline — this role manages multiple concurrent investigations with external reporting deadlinesComfort working within a small, evolving team during a period of structural change

Essential RequirementsTertiary Qualifications in Social Sciences, Legal, Social Work, Psychology or other relevant Human Services qualification and/or experience and relevant qualification in investigations or similarMust have a current Working with Vulnerable People check or willingness to obtainThe successful applicant will be required to undergo a National Criminal History check.
