About the role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Risk and Safety Officer to join Ipswich Grammar School on a 12-month contract.
Working collaboratively across the School, this role will provide practical advice and support to managers and staff to strengthen workplace health and safety, risk management and regulatory compliance. You will help identify and manage risks, support the implementation of effective safety systems and processes, and contribute to a positive and proactive safety culture across the School.
Responsibilities of the role include:
Maintain the School’s risk register and work with staff to identify, assess and implement appropriate risk controls.
Facilitate strategic, operational and project-based risk assessments across the School.
Provide practical risk management advice, guidance and training to managers and staff.
Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of risk controls, providing feedback and recommendations where improvements are required.
Support managers with risk assessments for School events, excursions, tours and activities, ensuring relevant legislative and compliance requirements are met.
Support compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations and relevant Codes of Practice, including monitoring legislative changes and their impact on the School.
Review and recommend updates to risk and safety policies, procedures and practices, providing advice to the Business Manager where changes are required.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess:
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, or a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in a similar risk, safety or compliance role.
Strong knowledge of relevant work health and safety legislation, standards and regulatory requirements.
Understanding of compliance requirements relevant to a school environment, including child protection, Working with Children Checks, transport and childcare.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across the organisation.
High attention to detail, with strong organisational and time management skills.
A practical, professional and solutions-focused approach to risk and safety.
