The RoleLocation: On-site, Eveleigh, SydneyDuration: Flexible, to suit student availability and course/placement requirementsPlease note this is an unpaid internship, structured as a vocational placement in line with your institution's course requirements.
Key Responsibilities:Support the space systems engineering and mechanical design team, including CAD modelling and design iteration;Assist with prototyping, testing, and hands-on build activities;Documentation and engineering report writing support;Presentation of reports internally and externally
Requirements:Be in the latter stages of studying a relevant degree or qualification (2nd year or later)Be enthusiastic about space, Earth observation, tackling climate change, and defence technologyHave the right to work in Australia, with citizenship in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South Korea, or another European country
Desired:Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)Familiarity with mechanical design principles for aerospace or other high-reliability environmentsExposure to GD&T, tolerancing, or DFM/DFA conceptsInterest or coursework in structural analysis, thermal management, or materials selectionExperience with prototyping tools (3D printing, workshop/machine tools)Strong written communication skills, with an interest in technical report writingKey learning opportunities:Hands-on exposure to the mechanical design lifecycle for a satellite payload, from concept through to prototypeDirect mentorship from senior engineers on space-grade design constraints (vibration, thermal, vacuum)Experience writing engineering documentation and reports to a professional/industry standardOpportunity to present technical work to internal and external stakeholdersInsight into how mechanical design integrates with systems engineering in a real space hardware programExposure to the operational realities of a fast-moving space startup
