Senior Manager, Investment Risk Reporting & Governance

Australia's superannuation industry is facing a shifting landscape influenced by increased regulatory pressures, disruptive technologies, changing demographics and evolving member expectations. This role plays a critical leadership role in strengthening risk transparency, governance effectiveness and risk-informed decision making across the Fund's Investments domain.

Your New Role

As Senior Manager, Investment Risk Governance, you will lead the Fund's independent Line 2 Investment Risk governance capability. You will provide Executive Management and Board forums with a consolidated, forward-looking view of investment risks, risk appetite outcomes, emerging risks and key strategic threats across the Investments domain.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality risk insight, independent challenge and reporting excellence, supporting effective oversight and risk-informed decision making across AustralianSuper.

Key duties include but not limited to;

• Lead the development and maintenance of the Fund's independent Line 2 Investment Risk reporting framework, ensuring reporting supports effective oversight by Executive, Investment Committee, Risk & Compliance Committee and other governance forums.

• Establish and maintain reporting standards, methodologies, governance requirements and minimum expectations for Investment Risk reporting across the Investments domain.

• Lead the production of integrated Investment Risk reporting, including investment risk exposures, risk appetite measures, stress testing outcomes, emerging risks, thematic issues and material interdependencies.

• Lead the synthesis of risk information across asset classes, investment strategies, portfolios and risk disciplines to identify key risk themes, concentrations and potential vulnerabilities.

• Deliver independent risk insights, observations and recommendations to senior management and Board forums, supporting effective risk-informed decision making.

• Provide insights, observations and analysis to Line 2 colleagues to enable and inform their Roles and Responsibilities under the Fund's Three Lines of Accountability.

• Provide independent challenge of investment-related risk reporting produced by Line 1 and other Line 2 teams, assessing the quality, completeness, consistency and relevance of information presented.

• Prepare Investment Risk reporting and governance materials for Executive Management, Board forums, regulators and other key stakeholders as required.

• Drive continuous improvement across investment risk reporting capabilities, including data quality, reporting processes, analytical tools, governance frameworks and supporting technology platforms.

What You'll Need

• Hold an accreditation in Risk Management from a recognised body like Risk Management Institute of Australasia (RMIA) or Governance Institute of Australia (GIA), certification such as the Financial Risk Manager Certification or Professional Risk Manager Certification, or be willing to obtain one after joining AustralianSuper.

• Demonstrated ability to understand and translate external regulatory requirements to shape business outcomes.

• Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Finance, or an industry-related field.

• Post tertiary qualifications in financial services, superannuation or risk management.

• Significant experience in investment risk, market risk, portfolio risk, enterprise risk, investment governance or a related risk discipline within financial services, asset management, superannuation, sovereign wealth, banking or regulatory environments.

• Deep understanding of investment risk management practices, including investment governance frameworks, risk appetite frameworks, risk reporting, risk oversight and Board governance processes.

• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering executive and Board-level risk reporting, including the ability to translate complex risk information into clear, concise and decision-useful insights.

• Strong understanding of institutional investment markets, investment strategies, asset classes and portfolio construction principles.

• Demonstrated ability to synthesise information from multiple risk disciplines, asset classes and stakeholders to form independent risk views and identify emerging themes, trends and vulnerabilities.

• Experience leveraging specialist subject matter expertise to develop integrated risk assessments and enterprise-wide risk insights.
