Senior Cost Recovery & Activity-Based Costing Specialist

Due to continued growth, we are seeking expressions of interest from experienced Cost Recovery and Activity Based Costing (ABC) Specialists for an exciting 12-month engagement supporting a major Commonwealth agency.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in improving the accuracy, transparency and defensibility of government cost recovery and charging arrangements.

About the Role

Working alongside an experienced government team, you will help design, validate and implement a bottom-up Activity Based Costing (ABC) methodology to support strategic financial decision making and sustainable cost recovery.
This role will involve analysing operational activities, validating cost drivers, improving costing methodologies, documenting processes and transferring knowledge to internal stakeholders to ensure long-term capability.
This is a specialist consulting role suited to candidates with demonstrated Commonwealth Government costing and pricing experience.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading or supporting bottom-up Activity Based Costing (ABC) reviews
• Analysing operational activities, resource utilisation and cost drivers
• Validating and reconciling costing information against existing financial models
• Identifying data gaps, inconsistencies and improvement opportunities
• Developing costing methodologies, templates and supporting documentation
• Producing clear process documentation and user guides
• Facilitating workshops with business and operational stakeholders
• Delivering knowledge transfer and capability uplift to internal teams
• Preparing reports and recommendations to support ongoing cost recovery activities

About You

We are seeking an experienced consultant who can demonstrate strong expertise in government costing, pricing and financial modelling.
Ideally, you will possess experience in several of the following:

• Activity Based Costing (ABC)
• Commonwealth Cost Recovery Frameworks
• Cost modelling and financial analysis
• Cost allocation methodologies
• Government charging and pricing models
• Business process analysis
• Financial modelling and reconciliation
• Stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation
• Developing operational documentation and guidance material
• Knowledge transfer and capability development

Experience working within Australian Government departments or agencies will be highly regarded.
Knowledge of the Australian Government Charging Framework, Charging Policy and Cost Recovery Policy will be viewed favourably.

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrated experience delivering Activity Based Costing (ABC) or cost recovery initiatives within the Australian Government.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to challenge assumptions, validate information and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Australian Citizenship.
• Current Baseline Security Clearance (or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement).
