About the Role

This is a Permanent position at 48 hours per fortnight within the Banksia Adolescent Inpatient Ward

You will be responsible for the delivery of one to one and group peer support for families and carers of children and adolescents using your personal mental health experience to model and promote recovery and hope.

You will be expected to uphold the lived experience principles and working values in order to develop relationships with families of those young people accessing our services which are strength, ability, possibility and recovery focused.

Classification for this position will range from AK39-AK42 (FTE base salary $74,630.40-$80,719.60 per annum, plus superannuation).

What you'll achieve:

• Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings [e.g. handovers, clinical reviews, discharge planning meetings] to promote recovery orientated practice and uphold the voice of the family/carer lived experience in decision making.
• Engage directly with family members and carers to understand their needs and complexities, in order to develop a professional and trusting rapport, whilst upholding professional boundaries at all times.
• Facilitate peer recovery groups and education
• Support families and carers to access other services to support them in their caring role
• Liaise with external stakeholders and service providers as required, to gather information, provide advice and build continuous professional relationships.

Your skills and experience

• Previous experience in peer support work with families is essential
• Evidenced commitment to lived experience values and principles
• Demonstrated knowledge of Victoria's mental health system
• Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Worker [or other peer work qualifications] is desirable but not essential

About the Department

Banksia is a tertiary Level 5 Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, supporting young people and their families aged 13-18 living in the Western regions of Victoria and Tasmnia. We are a 16 bedded unit, supporting young people who present with complex and severe mental health needs; open 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, staffed by a multidisciplinary team.
