Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation have new opportunities for a passionate and community-minded support worker to join the Kanyjaru Ngarnarna Wapa initiative in Hedland — a service dedicated to supporting the safety and wellbeing of women and children in the Hedland Aboriginal community.

Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation is a not-for-profit, client-focused organisation delivering services to the Hedland Aboriginal community. We operate with the guidance of our dedicated Elders, the Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders (HASL), and are committed to self-determination and community-led service delivery.

Position Duties:

• Support the delivery of the Kanyjaru Ngarnarna Wapa initiative in Hedland
• Work with clients to identify strengths and needs and create goals
• Support women and children to be safe, and to recover and improve their wellbeing
• Assist women with or without children to remain safely in their homes or a home of their choice
• Connect women and children to services that address their expressed needs
• Regular contact and home visits with local Aboriginal families
• Monitoring, reporting and data capture on client progress and program outcomes
• Identify gaps in services and refer clients to appropriate agencies
• Liaise with community groups, government bodies, and service providers around family and domestic violence and related community needs
• Work collaboratively with the Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders (HASL) and Hedland Aboriginal Emerging Leaders (HEAL)
• Arrange and attend meetings with services and clients as required
• Other duties appropriate to the role and skill level

Desirable Experience and Skills:

• Strong knowledge and understanding of family and domestic violence frameworks and practice
• Experience working with vulnerable women, children and families
• Knowledge and understanding of trauma and trauma-informed practice
• Strong understanding and proven ability to engage with and work within the local Aboriginal community
• Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience in person- or family-centred approaches to service provision
• Literacy skills including developing and writing person-centred plans and reports
• Data entry, time management, ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
• Understanding of professional boundaries including privacy, confidentiality, and respect

Qualifications and Experience:

• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families
• Experience working in a team environment
• Proficient computer literacy
• Right to work in Australia
• Unrestricted and current C class driver’s licence
• National Police Certificate no more than 6 months old
• Working with Children Check (WA)
