About the role
The Youth Education Support Worker provides classroom, administrative and wellbeing support to teachers and students participating in the ReFresh and ReNew educational re-engagement programs. The ReFresh and ReNew programs assist young people who have disengaged from mainstream education to successfully re-engage with learning through individual support, positive relationship building, and a safe, inclusive learning environment. The Youth Education Support Worker works collaboratively with teachers, youth workers and support staff to encourage attendance, participation, confidence, resilience and positive educational outcomes.
Core Values of the Avenue Neighbourhood House @ Eley
ReFresh is an alternative education program for young people aged 15 — 17 who are at risk or already disengaged from mainstream education. The aim of the program is to provide education in a way that encourages students to remain engaged in their schooling by creating learning opportunities that are practical and relevant to themselves, the community and their environment.
ReNew has a primary focus of re-engaging adolescents who are completely disengaged from mainstream schools. Students participating in ReNew often have multiple issues associated with drug/ alcohol use, mental health, family detachment, homelessness and the juvenile justice system. The ReNew program provides an important stepping stone back into learning and further educational options.
Both the ReFresh and ReNew programs provide wrap around support for students via secondary teachers and youth workers. Together these staff address both educational and social/welfare issues. Both programs are delivered over a 12-month period.
