About Us

We're a Māori/Polynesian family based on the Gold Coast looking for the right Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse to join our son's long-term care team.

Our son sustained a significant acquired brain injury at birth and now lives with profound neurological and medical complexity. His treating Consultant Paediatrician has described his care requirements as being equivalent to high dependency nursing care within the home environment.

Over many years we've worked alongside Queensland's tertiary paediatric services and a multidisciplinary team to develop a participant-specific home care model centred around continuity of care, consistency and collaborative practice.

We're proud of the team we've built so far.

Now we're looking to thoughtfully grow it.

Structured Onboarding & Participant-Specific Training

One of the questions we often hear is:

"I've never looked after a child with needs this complex. Would I be expected to know everything from day one?"

The answer is no.

Every successful applicant completes a structured participant specific onboarding, orientation and competency development program.

You'll work alongside experienced members of our team while gradually developing confidence, competence and familiarity with our son's established care model before practising independently.

Our expectation isn't that you already know our son.

Our expectation is that you bring a strong nursing foundation, a willingness to learn and a commitment to providing consistent, high quality care.

Why This Role Is Different

This isn't a traditional community nursing position.

You won't be travelling between multiple participants or moving between different care environments throughout the day.

Instead, you'll work exclusively with one child within an established home-based care team.

Over time you'll develop a detailed understanding of our son's individual presentation, learn to recognise subtle clinical changes and become part of a team that values continuity, consistency and long-term therapeutic relationships.

For the right person, that's one of the most rewarding aspects of this role.

About the Role

As part of our team, you'll work alongside experienced team members, parents and our son's treating multidisciplinary team to deliver participant-specific nursing care within the home.

The role includes:

• Airway assessment and secretion management.

• Suctioning and respiratory support.

• Medication administration.

• Transpyloric feeding.

• Seizure recognition and emergency management.

• Clinical observation and recognition of deterioration.

• Positioning and pressure care.

• Manual handling and hoist transfers.

• Overnight clinical monitoring.

• Congruency to infection control

• Documentation and communication with the wider team.

Because our son cannot verbally communicate pain, discomfort or deterioration, much of the assessment relies on careful observation, clinical judgement and developing participant-specific knowledge over time.

How We Work

Continuity of care sits at the centre of everything we do.

Rather than rotating staff between multiple participants, our team works exclusively with our son.

This allows each team member to build participant-specific knowledge, recognise subtle changes in his presentation and contribute to a consistent approach to care.

We've found that continuity not only strengthens clinical understanding but also builds trust, confidence and stronger working relationships across the entire team.

About You

Previous paediatric or complex care experience is highly regarded; however, we also welcome applications from nurses with a strong clinical foundation who are committed to learning our participant-specific care model.

Participant-specific onboarding, orientation and competency development will build upon that existing foundation before independent practice within our care model.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Enrolled Nurse (EN).

• Current First Aid and CPR certification.

• Full Australian working rights.

• Current driver's licence.

• Ability to participate in a rotating roster, including overnight shifts.

Experience in the following areas will be highly regarded:

• Paediatrics.

• Complex disability.

• One-to-one care.

• Airway management.

• Respiratory support.

• Secretion management.

• Enteral feeding.

• Epilepsy.

• Cerebral palsy.

• High dependency nursing.

• Manual handling.
