About the role
The Speech Pathologist at My Therapy House provides relationship based, family centred speech pathology services to children with intellectual, emotional, physical or developmental differences and their families. Services are delivered using developmental and relationship based approaches, taking into consideration the child's developmental level, individual differences and family context. Speech Pathologists work as part of a transdisciplinary team, collaborating with colleagues to support children and families across communication, social emotional and developmental areas. The role involves working collaboratively with families, colleagues and other service providers to support children's development and participation.
Key responsibilities
Conduct speech pathology assessments to understand the communication, relational and developmental needs of children and families
Analyse communication across contexts including play, relationships and everyday activities
Develop individualised intervention plans for therapy sessions and peer group programs
Implement therapy programs that support communication development, social interaction and participation
Prescribe augmentative and alternative communication supports where appropriate to enhance comprehension and communication
Select and implement therapeutic interventions that support communication development within relationship based interactions
Modify communication environments and activities based on the child's developmental level and individual differences
Monitor child and family progress through observation and collaboration with families and other professionals
Provide parent coaching and education to support families in understanding and supporting their child's communication development
Deliver services within the clinic and community environments including schools, early learning settings and homes where appropriate
About you
Successful completion of an accredited Speech Pathology program recognised by Speech Pathology Australia
Knowledge of speech pathology theories, models of practice and evidence based approaches
Knowledge of human development across the lifespan, particularly 0–21 years
Knowledge of NDIS systems and disability service frameworks
Experience working with children with developmental differences and their families
Ability to work with children and families demonstrating patience, kindness and compassion
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Clinical membership with Speech Pathology Australia
Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to community settings
