About the role
About the Team
The Hobart Area Office services the divisions of Clark and Franklin and is co-located with our State Office team. You will work closely with colleagues across our Burnie and Launceston offices, building strong relationships and regularly sharing information and expertise. We have a tight-knit team that values collaboration, professionalism and mutual support. As part of a national network of Service Officers, you will undertake a range of administrative and operational activities that support electoral roll maintenance and the delivery of electoral events.
The team typically consists of 5 to 10 employees; however, staffing levels increase significantly during electoral events as we engage a temporary workforce. This provides opportunities to work with people from diverse backgrounds. This may involve contributing to election-specific projects delivered in a fast-paced environment, with tight timeframes, increased public scrutiny and multiple interdependent priorities.
During electoral events, additional working hours may be required to support critical activities and meet fixed legislative deadlines.
At the AEC, you will develop strong connections with colleagues and supportive networks while contributing to the delivery of an impartial and independent electoral system with integrity.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the AEC and contribute to work that has a direct impact on Australia's democratic processes.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Service Officer to support the delivery of Australia's electoral system. In this diverse role, you'll combine customer service, administration, project support and election delivery to help ensure Australians can participate in democracy with confidence.
As a Service Officer, you'll provide frontline support to the public, responding to enrolment enquiries and processing a variety of electoral enrolment applications. You'll use your attention to detail, sound judgement and problem-solving skills to help maintain the accuracy and integrity of the electoral roll.
Beyond enrolment services, you'll contribute to the delivery of key electoral projects and activities. This may include supporting recruitment processes, coordinating operational tasks and working across a range of teams to meet agency priorities. During electoral events, you'll have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities, including coordinating event activities, training and supporting temporary election staff, leading small teams and contributing to the successful delivery of election operations. We provide the training, support and guidance you need to succeed and grow in the role.
You will thrive in this position if you enjoy delivering quality customer service while balancing competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Success in this role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, adaptability and a willingness to learn. You'll build positive working relationships, collaborate effectively with others and contribute to a supportive team culture. Most importantly, you'll bring a proactive approach and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for the Australian community.
