The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking 2 Research & Evaluation Officers to provide a critical role within Gambling, Liquor & Tobacco.

About the business unit

The Gambling, Liquor & Tobacco business unit supports the regulation of gambling, liquor and tobacco in Victoria, to minimise the harms these products can cause and contribute positively to the Victorian economy. It is responsible for:

• delivering and further developing the Victorian Government's strategic response to gambling, liquor, and tobacco issues
• developing and implementing the government's policy on major gambling licensing processes
• delivering a research and evaluation program to inform responses to gambling harm in Victoria.

It advises the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation and is the primary government point of reference for industry, community and government on gambling and liquor issues.

The Gambling Harm Evidence & Response branch helps to reduce gambling harm by:

• building the evidence base through a targeted research agenda and associated funding streams
• sharing the body of gambling knowledge to inform responses to gambling harm
• evaluating gambling harm programs, services and policy responses to ensure continual improvement
• coordinating the Whole-of-Victorian-Government Gambling Harm Prevention and Response Model.

About the role

The Research & Evaluation Officer will play a key role in supporting the planning, procurement and contract management and support of a range of research and evaluation projects related to gambling harm. It works collaboratively with colleagues across the unit on gambling harm-related matters, including by developing products, such as background papers, and research updates, summaries and fact sheets. The Research & Evaluation Officer will support the delivery of research and evaluation projects, including by assisting with project status reporting and contract and database management.

Some of your duties will include:

• contributing to the delivery of the unit's research and evaluation initiatives
• supporting the planning, procurement and contract management of a range of research and evaluation projects with external researchers and evaluators
• undertaking critical analysis and assisting in the development of project briefs and other documentation, including to advise on research and evaluation matters.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• experience in research and/or evaluation in the social sciences, public health, economics fields and applying the findings to program delivery
• understanding of research and evaluation methodologies
• research, analysis and written communication skills
• understanding of public health research and practice.

Qualifications/requirements

• Qualifications and experience in the fields of social sciences, public health, economics or other relevant discipline is required.
