Junior Commercial Operations Analyst

Role Overview 

We are looking for a Junior Commercial Operations Analyst to sit within SUPA’s Finance team, supporting the Commercial function through accurate, timely data analysis, reporting, and business insights. The role contributes to energy onboarding and month-end activities, and supports broader data extraction and analysis, while also acting as a key point of contact between Project Managers, retailers, distributors, and Billing as new sites are onboarded. You will ensure new and transitioning sites are brought online smoothly, communicated to Billing and Commercial in a timely manner, and understood in terms of their broader commercial impact including revenue, costs, billing implications, and portfolio growth.

What does a day in the life look like? 

• Coordinate and manage the operational administrative activities required for the connection of new and transitioning sites, serving as the primary liaison between Project Managers, retailers, distributors, Billing, and Commercial teams. 
• Identify and support process improvement initiatives across onboarding, tracking, review, and reporting workflows, including system and data upgrades. 
• Assist with compliance obligations relevant to embedded networks, including supporting reporting and record-keeping requirements to regulatory bodies such as the Essential Services Commission (ESC) and the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). 
• Support month-end operations and financial reporting by extracting relevant data and providing site-level context to ensure accurate and complete reporting. 
• Develop a strong working knowledge of energy market processes, participants, and terminology (e.g. retailers, distributors, NMIs/MIRNs, embedded networks). 
• Develop a general understanding of how site connections can affect broader commercial and revenue outcomes and raise relevant considerations with the Commercial team. 
• Work with Billing and Commercial teams to confirm site details, manage the process through completion, and ensure upcoming and newly onboarded sites are communicated in a timely manner to support accurate billing setup. 
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date site, meter, and connection records in relevant systems. 
• Assist with queries for newly onboarded sites, acting as a liaison between Billing and Project Managers where site context is needed. 
• Handle a range of ad-hoc requests from internal and external parties as they arise. 
• Escalate matters outside the role’s scope to the relevant team. 

What you need to be successful in this role? 

Skills and Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify root causes, and support business decision-making. 
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis) and Power BI for reporting and performance insights. 
• Strong numerical aptitude and ability to accurately understand and apply energy products, tariffs, and industry terminology. 
• Knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM), associated operational processes, and relevant regulatory requirements. 
• Demonstrated ability to follow structured processes and maintain compliance while ensuring accurate and timely outcomes. 
• Commitment to continuous improvement, with the ability to identify and implement efficiencies across systems, processes, and workflows. 
• Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities, coordinate a high volume of concurrent site connections, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records across multiple workstreams. 
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes within required timeframes. 
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders. 
• Experience supporting project-based activities and coordinating outcomes across multiple stakeholders. 
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment. 

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualification preferred (bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, business, engineering, or a related field) 
• Prior experience in an administrative, coordination, or analyst style role, ideally within the energy, utilities, or a related industry. 
• Exposure to embedded networks or energy retail will be highly regarded but not essential. 
• Experience liaising with external stakeholders or vendors as part of a broader operational process.
