The Role

As a Fire Safety Officer, you will be responsible for delivering Council's fire safety compliance and regulatory functions, including the administration of Annual Fire Safety Statements (AFSS), building inspections, investigations and enforcement activities.

You will work closely with building owners, developers, Council staff and the broader community to provide specialist advice, assess compliance requirements and support positive safety outcomes.

This role is ideal for a building surveying or fire engineering professional looking to apply their technical expertise in a diverse and community-focused environment.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

• Oversee the processing and compliance of Annual Fire Safety Statements (AFSS)
• Conduct fire safety inspections and compliance assessments across a range of building types
• Investigate fire safety matters and undertake enforcement action where required
• Provide expert fire safety advice to residents, developers and internal stakeholders
• Prepare technical reports, notices and documentation relating to compliance matters
• Contribute to legal proceedings through the preparation of evidence and expert reports
• Support Council's fire safety compliance programs and regulatory objectives
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve positive community outcomes

You will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying, Fire Engineering or a related discipline
• Current Class C Driver's Licence
• Experience in building surveying, fire safety compliance or a related regulatory environment
• Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, building compliance and certification requirements
• Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• The ability to interpret legislation and make sound compliance decisions
• A proactive approach with strong attention to detail and customer focus
• Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications

Salary starts from $108,644 (Grade H, Step 1) + 12% super + option of car allowance OR leaseback vehicle, depending on your skills and experience.
