The Role

The Host Landholder Program Lead is a new position at REA that will play a vital role in supporting current and prospective renewable energy host landholders and their families across rural and regional Australia. 

This position will establish an agricultural engagement program, requiring project management, event coordination, and online facilitation skills to build avenues for peer-support between renewable energy host landholders.  

The role will build capacity of renewable energy hosting farmers by providing general information and access to experienced hosts to answer questions, and advocate for better industry practice and government policy to benefit agriculture and regional Australia in the transition to renewables.

The Host Landholder Program Lead will report to the RE-Alliance Advocacy Director and work closely with the whole RE-Alliance team, including providing input to program and project strategies, and adapting and responding to changing circumstances to advance the goals of RE-Alliance.

The Host Landholder Program Lead will have a valid drivers licence and access to a car is essential for this role to attend meetings and events. Some overnight and interstate travel will be required. Reimbursement for reasonable expenses will be provided, subject to approval.  

Key Responsibilities

Outreach:

• Build networks with renewable energy host landholders across the country
• Build one-on-one relationships with host landholders to identify challenges and opportunities, and ensure program is aligned with their needs 
• Engage with agricultural sector organisations and networks across Australia, as well as renewable energy companies 

Program Management:

• Design and deliver a series of online and in-person events to support renewable energy host landholders
• Curate information and content designed to provide general information and advice to host landholders 
• Monitor and evaluate program success, incorporating learnings for continuous improvement
• Work closely with the RE-Alliance team to deliver events and content

Event Coordination:

• Manage in-person and online events that bring together host landholders to support each other and share knowledge and ideas
• Plan and execute workshops, webinars, and gatherings that address the unique challenges faced by renewable energy host landholders

Online Facilitation:

• Curate and facilitate channels for peer-to-peer learning, enabling host landholders to exchange ideas and solutions effectively online

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness or ability to complete training and take action to build cultural awareness and capabilities

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

• At least 3 years of professional experience in community development, community engagement, advocacy, community organising, or related fields
• Demonstrated record of maintaining productive relationships with farmers, landholders and/or the agricultural sector to advocate or deliver outcomes
• Demonstrated record of planning and delivering successful community events at a range of scales in collaboration with partners and stakeholders, including adapting to challenges and managing sensitive issues
• Demonstrated leadership, seeing through projects and ideas to completion and incorporating feedback
• High-level written and oral communication skills with experience communicating complex concepts to a wide range of audiences
• A passion for seeing that Australia’s transition to renewables is successful and better supports agriculture, farming families, and regional communities
• Current valid driver’s licence and ability to travel
• Proficiency with Slack, Google suite (Gmail, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides) and MS Office suite (Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Desirable:

• Lived experience as a renewable energy host landholder or prospective host landholder
• A deep appreciation for the challenges and opportunities facing rural and regional Australia
• Strong understanding of the Australian renewable energy sector landscape including opportunities and challenges
• Living in or strong connection to regional & rural Australia

Accountabilities

The Host Landholder Program Lead has the following accountabilities:

• Reports to the Advocacy Director and will undertake tasks as agreed as part of the staff team during the period of employment.
• May not engage in any trade, profession or business which would conflict with the duties of the position. Potential employees must declare conflicts of interest prior to commencement and if any arise during the course of employment.

Remote Working

REA is a fully remote working organisation that supports flexible work arrangements and work-life balance, enabling all employees to manage their professional and personal lives effectively, regardless of circumstances. It is expected that you will bring your own laptop, smartphone, and be set up to work productively from home or remotely for the majority of your employment.
