Technical Sales Person

TECHNICAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE | HD PUMPS – WINNELLIE

HD Pumps is a trusted name in the pump and water equipment industry, dedicated to Making Water Work through quality products and expert service. We’re looking for a technically-minded salesperson to join our Winnellie team — someone who can size, select and quote with genuine technical understanding, and just as easily build rapport with our largely commercial customer base.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a technical sales and business development role based at our Winnellie showroom. Your primary responsibility is handling walk-in and email enquiries, including complex technical enquiries, providing expert, application-specific advice on pumps, water equipment and related products. From there you’ll move into quoting and tenders, with business development and opportunity outreach picked up as capacity allows.

Most of our customers are commercial, so every enquiry is also a chance to build a relationship that leads to future business. As our team grows, this role has genuine scope to take on a bigger business development focus.

You’ll report to our Retail Manager for day-to-day sales and enquiry handling, and to our Sales Manager for tenders and business development. This role includes rostered Saturday morning shifts (every second Saturday).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Handle walk-in and email sales enquiries, including complex technical enquiries, providing expert product advice

• Size and select pumps and equipment to suit customer applications, using manufacturer data and pump curves

• Prepare accurate, presentable quotes, and support tenders and project-based quotations

• Identify and pursue business development opportunities as capacity allows, building on relationships from day-to-day enquiries

• Process sales and orders accurately through MYOB Acumatica

• Maintain the Winnellie showroom to a high standard, with initiative to improve presentation

• Engage with suppliers on product enquiries, technical support and stock availability

• Manage cash and payment systems, and balance the till as required

ABOUT YOU

You bring genuine technical grounding, whether that’s a trade background or hands-on technical sales experience, and you’re just as comfortable building rapport with a commercial customer as you are talking through a pump curve.

To be successful, you’ll have:

• A technical sales background or trade qualification in plumbing, irrigation, mechanical fitting, water treatment or a related field

• Sales experience in a trade, industrial or technical retail environment

• A willingness to learn and continue developing technical product knowledge

• Great attention to detail and a strong work ethic

• Excellent customer service and sales skills

• Good verbal and written communication

• The ability to read and interpret technical information (datasheets, drawings, specifications)

Licences required:

• Current Australian manual car licence

Well regarded, but not essential:

• Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain)

• Experience in one or more of our product categories (pumps, water treatment, irrigation, pool and spa, pressure systems, bores)

• Experience reading pump curves or selecting equipment to a duty point
