About the role
VACANCY: EXPERIENCED SHIPWRIGHT AND SHIPWRIGHT APPRENTICES
Location: Gold Coast and Brisbane
Employment Type: Full Time/Casual
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Range $35-$50
A position has become available for a qualified and experienced Shipwright to join our professional team engaged in the construction, maintenance, and restoration of high-specification vessels. This role is suited to a detail-oriented tradesperson with a demonstrated background in marine craftsmanship and a commitment to delivering work of the highest standard. Located in Gold Coast City Marina and The Boat Works at Coomera on The Gold Coast, we are right in the heart of the marine precinct. Positions also available for trades assistants.
Role Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing complex structural repairs, modifications, and new construction of vessels in accordance with design specifications, safety standards, and marine regulations. This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of precision, technical knowledge, and independent problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake structural repairs and refits on wooden, GRP and composite vessels.
Fabricate and install bulkheads, frames, decks, and internal joinery
Undertake componentry cataloguing, removal and reinstall on vessels 10m to 60m.
Teak Deck Installations or Refinishing
Gelcoat Repairs & Spray Painting
Interpret and work from technical drawings, specifications, and surveys
Collaborate with marine engineers, surveyors, and other skilled trades
Maintain compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory frameworks
Contribute to high-quality finishes and detail-oriented craftsmanship
Candidate Requirements:
A current trade Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction
Minimum 3 years' professional experience in a shipwright or senior boatbuilding capacity
Proficiency in traditional and modern marine construction techniques
Strong understanding of marine materials and their applications
Ability to work unsupervised with accuracy and accountability
Familiarity with relevant maritime safety and compliance standards
Current driver license
Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
Excellent time keeping skills
Be punctual & reliable with a great work ethic
The ability to diversify & multi-task
Forward thinking and the ability to use your own initiative
Willing to consider candidates with a strong work ethic and a keen interest in the marine industry
Desirable Attributes:
Experience working on commercial, production or custom yachts
Competence in associated skills such as laminating, cabinetry construction, or mechanical fitting
